Been looking at the Athlon Argos for a few months now. Ordered the moa 6.5x24x50 from Amazon after reading about 3000 reviews. Exaggerated I’m sure but a lot. Would only buy from Amazon due to 30 day return policy. I’ve got some higher end Nightforce and Leupold along with some mid range Burris and Vortex scopes. If glass is good to 20 and the ffp is ok I will be happy at the price. Watched a few videos of box test tracking after getting mush out of Turrets which I read Athlon has done already and it seemed to work. If not back to Amazon.

I assume you're getting the Argos BTR?
I have a couple of the regulat Argos, and the only detractors I found for the price are the turrets.

I've also got a Midas BTR, and really like it.

If your gonna purchase any more athlons, check out cameralandny. Better prices and service than Amazon.

cameralandny they like to tax me :cuss:

No tax this time on scope. BTR. They did tax the DNZ mount. Strange enough. All should arrive tomorrow and I’ll mount this week. Have been loading my best loads for it all week. Still gives me time for the 30 day return to Amazon on their dime if it’s not decent. I keep reading it’s on par with my Vortex HST. Will put them side by side to see. I find it hard for this money that the BTR can be better but lots of reviews say it is. Seems to do a box test nice enough on you tube videos. Have loaded enough to give it a try. I am disappointed it’s glass is from China verses Japan or the Phillipnes. Was told on some reviews that makers of the Bushnell Elite series started the making of these scopes. I also don’t believe everything on the internet. Nice to have people on forums that use these products give good honest reviews.

The top end Chronos are made in Japan, the rest are made in China. Same for Vortex, and it looked like more of the Bushnell line is moving to China as well. The most recent Trophy I got is Chinese made, the last few we're Korean.

I shot my regular Argos 4-20x50 side by side with a viper pst, and a trijicon accupower and at the 100yds we were shooting I found little difference in optical quality.

I'm hoping to have my 7mag set up with it's mk4 later this week, and I'll probably move the Argos to my 6.5-284.
That will allow me to have the Argos, Midas, and leupy Mk4 on the line at the same time.

Got it today and going to return. They sent mil instead of moa. Can’t see crosshairs until I get to 12 power. Heavy and built very well other than the reticle. Thinking of going up to there next level. Cabela’s is about a 1 hour drive and the have some in stock. Would like to look through the next one first. Moa reticle May not be as small. I can give credit that the zturrets are not mushy at all as all the reviews stated. They were very crisp and audible. ADjustable objective wasn’t stiff as all reviews I read. If it wasn’t as heavy as my GP 100 pistol would help some. Came with flip up caps and washers for a zero stop. Shame I can’t see until 12 power. A second focal plane like my Nightforce SHV might work better reticle size. I’d give this company a big thumbs up. Scope is built like a tank. My Nightforce isn’t built this good. But I can see the reticle.

That's sorta been my experience with ffp scopes, and the more convoluted reticles. I haven't used that many of then but below a certain power than are basically just crosshairs. My buddy has standard mildots and those seem to work well with ffp.

That is a trade off with FFP. The advantage is the reticle remains the same in relation to the target at all powers. If you want the big reticle at all powers (Like your Nightforce you like) SFP may be the way to go. It will only be good for ranging/holdover at one preset power though, that is the trade off with mil dot/MOA/ranging reticles and SFP scopes.

The hash marks would have been ok for known distances after trying it out some. I mostly just dial up and use my dope card. Mainly use moa because it’s all I know. Been thinking of getting a S1 Hunter Sightron if they ever go back on sale to learn mills on my 10-22. Would be an advantage to know both. Forty years ago they were going to teach us the metric system in school and for some reason never did. Lol. I use a conversion app on my phone. 22 ammo is a lot cheaper than any of my reloaded calibers except maybe pistols and rifles I cast for. With price of lead I’m not sure that’s true anymore.
