My bride heard me cursing while pecking away at primers today so gave me an early Christmas present. Wow I would have bought this much sooner if I'd known how well it works.
Before using it i took a razor and just took off any flashing around the primer hole in both trays where it feeds to the tube.
Loaded up 300 rounds with small and 300 rounds with large primers and never missed a beat.
Figured out that if I shook it to keep the primers in a straight line they went into the tubes in seconds.

Damn a bride that gets you reloading equipment for X-Mass, and give it to you early. Now, thats a keeper. My bride of 42 years does the same thing. That's why I'm still with her even though she beats me..... "When I deserve it"

She's been a keeper for 35 years now. I've only used Federal primers in the Hornady unit so not sure how Winchester or CCI primers work as I do use some of them but mostly Federal.

First time I tried that pecking thing i said, there's GOT to be a better way. I got the 1911 loader and I love it. For me, and my friend too, we cannot get Winchester sp primers to feed well. The rounded edges seem to hang up more that S&B or CCI.

Got one from Grafs on sale for 20 bucks, works great. Seems to drop small primers quicker than large ones. Might need to check for flash on the trays. Makes quick work of of filling the tubes to feed my RCBS bench primer.

Wow you got a Hornady one for $20.00???

I'm going to try small Winchester primers when I get some time and see if I have same issue.

$20---wow!
Sometimes they do fairly well, but there's always a couple of hangups per hundred.

Well tried some small Winchester primers and they failed badly. Got to looking at how it failed and the primer was getting hung up and was tilting sideways into the hole. Took a razor and on a 30 degree angle or so gently went around the hole. Put a hundred through it two times with no hang ups.

Thanks Reeferman, that's good to know. Did you go completely around the hole or just in the front where the primer slides into the hole?

Just on the primer side. I just let the weight of the razor knife sit on it and moved side to side. I did it once tried 50 primers, didn’t work then did it again. Then I put a 100 primers in and was able to do it twice with no issues.
I don’t know what was there as I couldn’t see anything and I really can’t see anything I did but something must have been there.
Hope it works for yours.

Thanks. I'll try it just to see if there's anything there. I don't have any Win primers now though. After the last batch I vowed not to use them again unless the price or availability made me. I've got a big stock of S&B and CCI right now.

I've found that Winchester SPP run a bit wider than CCI or Federal primers

I measured the Winchester and Federal small pistol primers I have with a digital and dial calipers and found this.

Federal .175 wide and .120 deep

Winchester .175 wide and .118 deep

Well I've loaded a 1000 rounds with small primers half were Federal and half Winchester and not one issue. Loaded 500 with large primers half with Federal and half with CCI and no issues.
This is one of the best bang for the buck I've bought in a while and would recommend it to anyone.
I tried a friends Vibra Primer and didn't like it. It seemed worked just as well but being right handed the Hornady works much better for myself.

So did you ever get this working right?

I have a HUGE stock of S&B and CCI (especially after this recent Cabelas sale) so no telling if or when I'll ever get any Win primers to try. I looked at my loader though and it looks smooth there. It works fine now so I didn't mess with it. Thanks for asking.

One of the local gun stores had a special on Winchester small and large primers so bought the last 4000 small and 3000 large they had. Loaded another 500 of each and worked like a charm. This has been one of the best loading tools I've ever had.
Like I said before I couldn't see anything there and can't see anything after as well but whatever was the razor did fixed the issue.

I just picked up a Franklin Arsenal Vibra-Prime about 3-4 weeks ago, and I debated back-and-forth between the Hornady and the FA version.

I LOVE IT!!!!

I got out my Exacto knife and small file set to remove the excess flash that I had been hearing about, but there was *nothing*! I am not sure if FA has improved their manufacturing process or their QC, but I literally could not find any flash to remove.

I have read lots of bad reviews on the Vibra-Prime, but honestly, I think it is all in the technique, which is probably the same with your Hornady model.

I have found that the CCI SPP load FLAWLESSLY. Not a single jam, mess-up or issue. The CCI LPP can sometimes get a jam when the primer turns at a bit of an angle as it is dropping, and gets hung up on the hole. A small shake or two usually is enough to clear the jam, and then I continue on. I might try your razor blade technique to add the small bevel to the large primer hole. Thanks for that tip. Hopefully it works as well for the FA version as it does for the Hornady.

I have also found that you really need to go slowly! Let the primers go into the chute in a single file rather than let them get all bunched up at the entrance. I am sure your Hornady is the same way.

Truly, it is all about the technique with these things.

I also have some of the S&B primers that I picked up from the recent Cabella'a sale, and have not tried them yet, and I have some Winchester primers to try also. So far, I have only loaded the CCI ones.

After using the Vibra-Prime for a few weeks now, I could NEVER go back to the hunt and peck method of loading primer tubes! I love my Vibra-Prime, and I can't believe it took me so long to pick one up. The bad reviews kept me away, but finally one day, I just said "screw it" and decided to take a chance.

Like you said, these things are the greatest things since sliced bread, and I am so glad I finally got one!

Good luck with your Hornady version, and congratulations on having a fantastic wife! I have one also, but I had to buy my own Vibra-Prime!!! :(
