Recently bought 2 600ct boxes of Hornady .224 75gr A-Max. Got the bug recently to get as much accuracy out of my rifles as I can.

That being said, I've started sorting by a) weight and b) base to ogive measurements

The 2 boxes were opened up and dumped into a pail. Both the same lot number and I wanted to go through all the bullets to see where I stood. EVERY single bullet was within +/- .1 gr of 75gr and each and every bullet was within +/- .001" base to ogive measurements. I'm pretty impressed with that level of consistency. I'm sure Sierra & Bergers and others are consistent, but they are also a lot more money.

I'd also done nearly 1700 Hornady .264 140gr A-Max (MidwayUSA seconds so no lot numbers) and 85% of these were within +/- .1 gr as well as +/- .001 base to ogive. Similar findings with 800 Hornady .308 208 A-Max (production first, all the same lot).

Bergers, yes just as consistent...Sierras, not so much. At least this is what I've found.

That's why I switched from 175gr SMK to the 178gr Hornady BTHP Match bullet.
