Hornady .224 Bulk bullets in 55gr any good?

I know hornady makes great stuff (I love my VMax bullets) and was wondering if the quality and accuracy traveled over to the bulk bullets as well?

I mean for 7 cents a round, it is extremely tempting.

I'm using the Hornady 55 grain spire point-soft point's in my Mini-14, they are plenty accurate out to 100-150 yards. I'm getting pretty consistent 2.5" groups, so yeah, they offer a lot of bang for the buck.

I'm going to an appleseed shoot and we'll be going out to 500. Nothing ridiculously accurate, but will they do moderately well out that far?

And no offense, but I'm gonna be doing this in a SPR so the accuracy should be slightly better than a mini14

I'd go with something in the 69 gr range out to 500 yards, I like the Nosler HPBT's, they run about $50-60/250, so figure 20-25 cents/round.

For 500 yds, 69s at a minimum, 77s if you have a 1:8 twist or faster, Nosler or Sierra; Hornady 75s would also be good ... the bulk FMJs are plinker bullets.

Most of the shots will be at 100-200 yards. It's just the couple shots on the AQT that go out that far. Also I only have h335 on hand so I'm limited to the lighter bullets. I'm not target shooting here. Just looking to hit a target at that yardage.

So are the bulk bullets worth saving the extra 4 cents per round compared to the regular ones? Or are there any 62 grain mediocre bullets to recommend? Because I can probably get away with those using h335.

Not match bullets but they are better than FMJs. You can sometimes get them a little cheaper through Midsouth as their varmint nightmares are Hornady bulk. They do kill well.

Wait What are hornady bulk? I was planning on buying the actual hornady bulk bullets listed on midsouths website. Do you suggest the nightmares over te bulk?

for what you are doing thats fine. yes there are better bullets out there but for what you want to do just go with it. remember you asked for a opinion and folks gave you good advice.
on a calm day you will not have many problems back to 500 but there are many choices that are better and that means anything heavier than 55's.
you mean 55's are the only bullet weight you can use with that powder? lots of choices of powder for a 223 round.

my final opinion would be buy enough to load up some good acurate rounds designed for that distance and barrel twist and then load some bulk to have around to plink and for the zombies.

I thought there bulk bullets were the same as the boxes of 100, just more of them. Haven't tried their bulk rifle, but their pulk lead pistol bullets were that way.

Well I guess I should go with a heavier grain bullet. Are the noseler 69gr HPBT good?

Also does anyone have a suggestion with regards to their particular loads? I'm not going to have time to load them in .1 gr increments I just need a good safe starting load and a powder you recommend. I'm really racing against the clock to get these loaded.

I have found them very accurate.I shoot these in 222.These bullets have out performed every other bullet I have loaded for accuracy. Byron

Nosler 69s are excellent - all I use in that weight since the Sierras are so pricey. Loaded to mag length with Rem 7 1/2s, CCI BR or 41s, Wolff SR Magnums (regular SR have a too soft cup)...

RL-15 24.0 - 24.6 - easy to meter
Varget 24.0 - 25.0 - a little tougher to meter
AA2460 23.5 - 24.0 - easy to meter
H4895 24.0 - stick powder, doesn't meter really well

Those loadings are suggested by John Holliger of WOA. For 69s, I use RL-15 at 24.2 with Rem 7 1/2s.

I bought those and I am getting 1 MOA at 100 yards easilly. And when I do my part, they cloverleaf.

I was told by the old timers here (I think rcmodel was the one who said that to me) in a thread that I should shoose the SP over the FMJ for precision.

I load those over 25.1 grains of Ramshot TAC.

That Hornady soft point and it 50 Gr counterpart will shoot bug holes in my .222 Mag. It loves them. I have not shot any of the Hornady 55 Gr FMJ bullets I have, but those will be used in my AR and Mini 14.
