Excellent brass, very uniform, but not that commonly found in range pickup. Their rifle brass tends to be a bit short but is entirely usable.
Some chamberings of Hornady ammo are built with intentionally shortened brass to accommodate the FTX bullets. Revolver brass and straight walled rifle brass should be carefully measured to check for these.

As stated the once fired brass may be shorter because they use it with their special bullets that require shorter brass due to the flex tips. I just separate mine and load them all as a batch with their own data and crimp/seating requirements that I have worked up as needed. If you were to buy the brass new it might be the same length as other brands but I am unsure as I have never done this. Just measure it first.
Not sure what caliber you are talking about in the OP but it sounds like a good score for sure.
I have used it some in reloading and it is as robust as any if not more so compared to other brands as to number of total reloadings. Take into account that I seldom load my ammo to max either. YMMV

WHOA, you lucked out ! Good brass for sure. In fact, I picked up 20 mty brass at last years sight in at our range, 20 Hornandy included. Working up a load for my '06, this is what was loaded, shot the best group with this brass, might see if I can buy more.

Hornady is fine brass, and they will keep getting my business as long as they continue making .405 Winchester casings.

I have a pile of Hornady 223 brass collected from firing factory cartridges. After cleaning & prep there appears to be two distinct weight classes. Since they, I assume, farm out their brass production to someone who puts their headstamp on it I'm guessing they're getting brass from multiple sources. Moral of the story, for precision work you'll want to weight it & verify.

I think I read somewhere that Winchester was a major source of Hornady brass.

I user all hornady brass except 357mag, it goes straight to the trash. I dont want it getting mixed in with properly manufactured 357 mag brass.

As said above many times, Hornady brass is high quality. I like their brass although I don't have very much of it.

They may make some normal length 357 brass, I dont know, but I have never gotten one. Every single piece of hornady 357mag brass I have came across was made much shorter than standard to work with the lever gun bullets they make. Unfortunately this means that when ran through the press they are too short to properly bell the case, too short to fully actuate a case activated powder measure, and too short to crimp.
I have no desire to have anything to do with them, as I am not changing my die setup for their brand of brass. I'll stick with companies that make brass to industry standard specs.

Someone could easily trim the and use them as .38SPLs (with due ID care, of course). If all you're gonna do it toss them, at least give them away to a nearby reloader, maybe even someone who likes to load FTX bullets.

I have hornady 357 mag brass set aside. Most 357 brass i have measures 1.290". hornady measures 1.240... way short, not long enough to flare case, actuate powder measure and properly crimp. all they are good for is scrap IMO. honestly not worth the effort to trim down to 38 specs with how common 38 brass is.

The probably reason you are finding only short Hornady .357 Magnum brass is the popularity of their new Leverevolution ammo which includes .357 Magnum ammo. Because of the polymer tip on their FTX bullet they have to trim the brass shorter so that the final OAL isn't so long that it doesn't cycle correctly in a levergun. I'm almost sure their other .357 Magnum ammo uses "normal" length cases.

Yeah, they may still make normal length handgun brass, I just never come across it in my area.

I have lots of Hornady 357 brass from shooting their XTP loads & it's all normal length. Perhaps one should measure what they have before making a blanket condemnation. Then, take the short stuff & sell it to a guy who's looking to load the pointy rounds for his lever gun.

Blanket condemnation? Whats with the oversensitivity around here lately? I check the length of every piece of it I get and I have yet to get one thats snormal length. I certainly wont waste my time saving it to find someone who happens to load one kind of bullet. Fact is Hornady really shouldnt have done what they did.
