Hornady Critical Defense Ammuntion

I was over sensationalizing some of the posters reactions, numbers 11, 13 and 15.

What happened with Glock, i can see happening here. Glocks had a few guns that KB'd, which, for a while, basically turned into "all Glocks will KB". People spread the stories around the internet like wildfire. One KB incident turned into it happening 15 times.

I can totally see someone in the future, asking about Hornady CD ammo on this site, followed by someone re-telling the story with their twists. What happened to the OP will turn into, "a buddy of mine/i was right there and watched it" and the story will have tweaks like it being 100 rounds failed to fire, instead of a dozen or so.

It happens all the time on the internet. Why do you think so many people believe the 10mm is as powerful as the .41 mag, even though it isnt true? Because people said it was and their comparison were skewed(i.e. comparing max loaded 10mm to commercial medium loaded .41mag).

Mine was #11....

If you want to rely on this type of ammunition go ahead, but if someone reputable like the op tells everyone of his situation with the click no boom, then I'm not going to buy it anymore regardless of hornady's reputation nor will I reccomend it to my friends, but you go ahead and make fun/sensationalize if it suits your personality. :barf:

Regarding the OP's complaint...

What would account for this?
'Hard' primers?/Small Rifle Primers?

Being as most went 'Boom' on a second try in a different Arm.

RR makes a bad car every now and then????

I'll never find out for sure, I'd rather have a truck, a bike, some guns, and other toys. Oh, and a few thousand rounds of CD to test fire before I sell the first 20 rounds I bought. Oh crap, I only have 10 left because I shot the first 10 through the target the day I bought it.

I also forgot to mention that when I forgot to bring ammo one time, the at the time purchased Remington Viper FTF about 20% in my 597, but I still buy Cor-Lokt for my hunting ammo. 30-30, 270 & 30-06.

Better yet, if you want to sell me the CD, I'll buy it for 50% off since you think it's crap.

i was wondering do they penetrate deep enough? and are they accurate? if so then i will buy a few boxes.

i want the perfect bullet that expands ,penetrates and is accurate then all my worries have ended..

I can't remember where I read it, but one customer said Hornady told him
that the failures were due to using a "nickle" primer. Something about the nickle being harder than the standard primers (brass I believe?) They have ceased using the nickle.

Hard primers are like that. There's a lot of complaints about non brass primers in the mousegun community since the light DAO actions on some of these will have issues with anything other than a brass primer.

I believe Stephen Camp, who does his own test firing, checking expansion, velocity, etc has tested the Hornady .380 round, and said it works really well. Any JHP ammo could clog up with clothing fabric, and not expand properly. Any of the JHP ammo could also cause jams in your gun, that is why you should test fire some rounds from the same lot #. Also, its best to test fire all the rounds from a particular box of ammo, and if they function, take the remaining rounds, and load them into your gun.

Again, I have seen absolutely NOTHING that shows Hornady CD ammo is any more or less likely to expand than any other premium JHP ammo. As far as I can tell, failures to expand are EXTREMELY rare, and Hornady is trying to convince us that it is a common problem to sell their new bullets to people who have no need for 'Leverlution' ammo.

All I can say is this ammo shoots and feeds flawlessy out of my Ruger LCP I also have some in 9mm and 38+p but i havent had time to try it yet in those calibers but if it shoots as accurately in those calibers as it does in my 380 they are all a keeper.

I just think Hornady is selling gimmick ammo when they have no reason to.

I like these Critical Defense a lot, here in NJ we can't use JHP's for SD/carry, so the plastic plugged point allows us to not consider them "Hollow Point or Hollow Nosed" and carry them. I bought a box of the .38+p 110gr and am wondering what kind of terminal ballistics they offer in a 4" barrel

I have had good luck with CD in .380 and 9mm. Runs fine in my lcp and my g19. The boxes I have were purchased about 6 months ago so I hope in is a different batch.

Hmmmmmm....

So...you are obvioulsy a very well spoken, smart, avid, gun savy, conscientious, shooter who got ahold of a box of factory ammo which missfires some ammo. But, you did not keep the shell casing or the box. It's just seems inconsistant to me.

But I will not be keeping Hornady CD ammo in my ole 38 wheel gun at my vacation home. And that really dissapoints me 'cause it's very pretty ammo. Well, beauty can sometimes be just skin deep.

*ATF came and got all my guns... didn't give me a receipt, didn't ID themsleves. All except for this Cabela's Black Powder Pistol.
