At a local sports store today and they had these on sale so bought a box. Never loaded any lead other than some coated cast that are working great. Do these lead easily and do they smoke like other lubed lead bullets? Will be using either Bullseye or 231 loaded on the light side.

Those Hornady bullets are not Cast and are on the soft side. You will not want to push them too hard like you would in a .357 Magnum. They are however very accurate for the .38 Special and I load them with W231/HP-38. Give a charge of 4.0gr a try and see if you like it as much as I do.

EDIT:
I just checked and according to Hornady the charge range for W231 is from 3.2gr to 4.4 gr with that 158gr SWC bullet. (OAL 1.455")

That 3.1 grains of Bullseye is in a 357 case with standard Federal primers. Will see how they work.

Was able to shoot these today and am very happy with them. No leading and as accurate as any plated bullets I use.
