This is a great addition to a single stage press. I put this system on my RockChucker and I'm kicking myself for not buying the conversion kit earlier. I know a lot has been said about this system, and I want to chime in and say it's a wonderful way to speed up single stage operations.

Also, my RCBS dies still fit in their original boxes with the bushings attached. I only have RCBS dies, so I can't comment on others. However, this is a great system even if you don't have a Hornady progressive press.

I plan on acquiring a Hornady AP soon, but this will fill the gap and have me ahead of the equipment curve a bit when I do finally get one later this year. They're a bit hard to find at the moment and I have 10+ months to find one and still get the 1000 free bullets.

I've read of some folks having to readjust their dies from the single stage to the AP press due to some differences. Did any of you come up with a shim to fill the gap so they can be used on each with speed and ease?

Yep, I drilled out an 1/8" fender washer and now my Rock Chucker stroke matches my AP so no adjustment is needed.

On the Rock Chucker; unscrew the die insert that came with the press and screw in the Hornady L-n-L adaptor with your shim.

jeepmor;

You should measure both of your presses to see if 1/8" a shim is enough or two much. I know how tight the tolerances are between press models and manufactures over the years. My Rock Chucker was a mid 70's vintage and my AP was from 2006. In a perfect world your presses would also have a 1/8" variance, but I would measure to be sure.

Idano, I too would like to shim my Rock Chucker to match my LNL-AP. How would one go about measuring the exact amount of shimming necessary? Should I start by inserting the sizing die into the RC, adjusting it for proper fit, and then placing it into the LNL-AP to see how much higher it is off the shell plate or is there a better way?

For those who are using the Lock/load conversion on Rockchuckers, have you found any loss of accuracy with this setup? Over time, do the bushings maintain the same level of tightness in and out of the press? Do the rubber o rings hold up? It seems like a really neat set up.........Thanks for the help!

IMtheNRA,

I installed the shell holder on to the ram of my Rock Chucker and raised the ram to the top; handle down. Then I screwed the L-n-L adapter into my Rock Chucker with resizing the die that was setup on my AP until it touched the shell holder. Just like the RCBS instruction tell you how to setup the resizing die I lowered the ram so I could screw the adapter another 1/4 turn so it will cam and then I measured the gap from the top of the press to lower lip of the adapter.

ldv444,

I was looking back through my receipts for the thread "How much have you spent" realized that my press was going on two years old. So far I haven't seen any wear issues that could lead to inaccuracies yet. So far I really love the setup, I run over 10K rounds through mine and I switch calibers a lot. Ask me again in eight years see if I have the same feeling about the L-n-L system then.

I've been wondering if the LNL kit will work on a LEE Challenger. I know it has the breech lock system but I'd like to keep it the same as my LNL AP.

MrWilson,

It may or may not work on the Lee Challenge, but it will definately work on a Lee Classic Cast Single stage. I know, I have one with the LnL Conversion kit. The Classic is a much better press than the challenger.

Regards,

Dave

The coarse thread in the casting of your press that the steel threaded sleeve that you insert your dies into is what you replace. The LNL inserts do the work from there. I don't worry about a rubber o-ring, I think it will hold up fine. There is not too much pressure to install and cause lengthy deformation issues, just enough to hold it. Unless you hose it down with automotive degreaser regularly, the o-rings should last forever. I suspect mine will.

Neat innovation for any press for timelieness and repeatability.
