CWL,
Moving doesn't solve the problem, it's not a geographic problem so much as a mentality and "hoodlem" problem.
What's the view of Taiwan when it comes to "American punks" like me who want to "defend themselves"??? Not good. Most say that "harming" a thief will get your rear-end thrown in jail..
One of the reasons that most people are so passive is that one of the famous stories was that a thief broke into the house, and the father was there, and got mad and chased him out onto the streets; he stabbed him with a pencil (the only thing he had in his hand) and it happened to be the jugular vein, and the thief died... The father got 18 years in jail. So now, everybody is MORE afraid of going to jail and so nobody resists... Of course, I'd hate to imagine myself or my gf being harmed... The thieves seem to be quite the violent type, while they opt to run, if they are confronted in a house, most believe they will do harm instead of try to flee, and yet they do nothing. I am glad my gf doesn't have the "Victicrat mentality" as Larry Elder calls it..
What is rediculous is that I went shopping for a baseball bat, and they sell something that looks like a baseball bat, but a little bit smaller; it says "Self-defense bat". So apparently, the need for a self-defense bat has gotten to the point that they have ones specially designed for such use. It's a bit smaller, for "easier swinging by everybody in the family" quoting from the instructions...
Still haven't finished cleaning up all the mess that the thief left; just found out, gf bought a shirt the day before, and the tag was still on it, and the thief stole that. Also, two of my DVD's are missing as well...
I activate my motion detection camera before I leave now..
CWL, what makes my building so inviting? First, these guys are local, that's #1. Second, I live in a semi-high rise building, (5 stories) and the first story is actually detached... The roof of the first story is almost eye-level with my patio... Yes, I have metal gates on my patios, but they broke the hinge (not the lock). The fact that they can walk on the rooftops and "shop" the houses without problems is what makes my building and those around mine, so appealing.. Two buildings down, was hit too...
Crossbows and harpoons are illegal unless you make it yourself, and then you have to go through a registration approval.. metallic BB's and pellets are illegal, only airsofts...
:banghead:
"Officer, my bat was standing in the corner and he kept running into it, I swear!!!"
