Other advantages of hickok45: he not only does his best to make objective comparisons of handgun/rifle features, ergos, other characteristic etc, but often does side-by-side evaluations and explains why he has a preference or not.

So many other people show guns in a very static setting, i.e. on a bench or "the wife's" shiny breakfast table.
Hickok45 tries to present the big picture allows you to see the gun and the targets. And with rifles, pretty cool to see the close-up cumulative damage to cinder blocks from an M1A-1 or AK at about 120 yards (?).

His info might help very new shooters as well as those with decent experience but realize that they are no expert on any type of platform.

He’s kind of a goober but would be a great neighbor or family member. Seems to know what he talks about and recognizes that many many people buy guns to shoot for FUN.

Better than the tactical bearded guys. I dont watch him much but would recommend to your casual shooter.

I dont think hes as accurate as people make him out to be however. He shoots potted plants at point blank or a 3’ gong at like 100 yards.

Yep, that's the first source of technical info over any Youtuber.

You know, another thing I like about his videos, they don't have some stupid heavy metal music in the beginning as an intro. I can't stand that macho, testosterone driven crap.

He actually stated in one of his videos something to the effect of "There's nothing macho about shooting guns. It's just a life skill that some people choose to develop. It doesn't make you more manly or tough."

I just wish I could remember which video it was from, because it's a good message. Gun ownership and shooting guns is not an aggressive thing, it's just a skill and a sport.

I think the best thing about hickok45 is that he has kept me from purchasing several firearms. Sure, anyone can tell you that a certain product "is the greatest thing ever and to be in the club you must have this."
For the "lowest common denominator" crowd he hits the soda bottles, the dueling tree, the silhouettes, and the gong. I get it - you have to have some "show." Kitchen countertop reviews are a dime a dozen. Not many people like still cameras and talking heads. The outdoor range and wooded background provide a good studio space with plenty active background.

I really like the episodes where he field strips the firearm and compares among several similar competing offerings. I don't even care that he has a G19 bias - at least he is upfront about it. A person can get his general opinion without him saying a whole lot of negative things (even though he could).
The only thing is that he has a specific sliver of products that he reviews - ie things that you stand and shoot on his range.

Everyone in this genre of product review videos has bias. He's entertaining, provides information, and gives you the "thoughts from an everyday guy."
10/10, would recommend.

The first time I watched a Hickok45 review, I admit I found myself wanting more information so I moved on. Then I spent months watching wannabe “operators” in their tactical boots, 511 pants, Oakleys and manicured beards tell me everything I can already find out from a gun manufacturers website and giving me close up videos of their stern and serious faces as they shot, and I eventually realized Hickok45 actually does a pretty good job. His long 20-25 minutes of rambling are entertaining and I can typically find out everything I want to know (after also visiting the manufacturers website). His son also does a good job with the camera and sound aside from the occasional Harley going by.

One other thing I like is Hickok45 is probably the ONLY “Glock guy” in the world that doesn’t feel the need to constantly remind us how every other handgun isn’t as good as his Glock. He’ll tell you he carries and like’s Glocks and leaves it at that.

Yet 2 minutes of tactical beard guy in 5.11, tactical gloves and sometimes (gag) a plate carrier be all tactical shooting at... well we dont know, because they never show the target. Probably just the dirt berm. Either way 2 minutes and I'm bored to tears.

Then again just about anything is better than blowhards like YankeeMarshall.

This list separates him from many (perhaps even most) of the people who attempt to provide serious gun reviews online and/or on video.

I can't say I'm a big fan of his but have watched some of his videos and agree 100%.

He made the video about people trying to visit him at his property not to rob/commit heinous acts but to visit and meet the man behind the legend and he said he did not want them to visit him or for his location to be readily known. Well don't post videos and set yourself up to be an elite then. It would not bother me to have people visit if I promoted myself as much as he does, I would relish it. This is just my opinion because I am a friendly person, and the thought of a stranger does not bother me. I understand the dangers of society but that is why I have ADT security, carry daily, own a respectable gun safe, and have insurance. No fear only community.

A posted video is public. A person's home is not.

Yankee Marshall is obnoxiously conceited. His videos are extremely formulaic and he thinks he is just the funniest, most original guy around. His main shtick is posting a vid with an inflammatory title like "Glocks suck!" and in the video he pretends to criticize the subject material but does it in a way that really glorifies it. Literally half the videos on his channel are the same deal. He's the worst.

I agree Hickok is a great face for people that are defending the bill of rights. I don’t visit his channel for information or “reviews”, just entertainment. I agree That he would make a *great* nra spokeman (I don’t like Dana) but Im thinking that’s a tough job to ask of a retired person.

I think for actual gun information I like lucky gunner. That channel lately has been focusing a lot of things such as defensive philosophies and shooting drills. More about the improving as a shooter rather than what the latest hardware is. I like it.

There are lots of youtube people out there, different people like different presenters, there are a few I can not stand and a few are popular. H45 is not bad, pretty light, and very level headed....a good spokesperson for our sport.

Unfortunately yes, at least IMO. I can't stand listening to him talk, and watching him shoot is like watching a horrible action movie with B movie acting. "Ok Larry, now look really mean."

Personally, I'm happy when I shoot. The one and only bit of respect I have for him is that he served in the military. That's where it ends.
