    How close is your weaopn

Late last night I was sitting at the computer when I heard the distinct sound of something rumaging around in my carport. I garbbed my pistol from the desk top and went to investigate. Turned out it was the new stray cat poking around my birdseed sacks for mice, so no harm done. But it made me wonder, how many of you, sitting right where you are now, can grab a weapon? With the growing rate of home invasions, maybe I've become alittle paranoid, but I'm just not comfortable without mine right by my side.

    Me.
Right next to the phone partially covered with maps. I can see and grab it, but a visitor would be less likely to notice it (my coworkers woudn't care ...).

It's either in a holster on my person, or in a holster sitting on my computer table. My wife thinks it looks funny to be washing dishes while wearing a gun, but it would look funnier trying to scramble up the stairs to the safe if something happened.

I have one in my pocket and one in my briefcase at my feet. At home the 870 is under the bed (in a safe that is locked during the day). I tend to carry at home when out in the yard and generally have a .22/.410 with me due to a recent vermin infestation.

5' to my desk drawer with 2 1911s, 10' (but in another room) for the safe.

i've failed a couple of times to get the gun secured in my room before i go to bed. i wind up leaving it on the table where i watch tv.
i kick myself every time i forget it there, but should the need arise, the winchester 1300 sits behind the bedroom door.

    When I'm not carrying,

It's less than 5 very exciting seconds from where I spend the bulk of the day, and less than 2 seconds from where I sleep.

Within reach of my right arm, hanging on my wall. My hatchet, that is. Hidden from the doorway and from almost 300 degrees from sight.

Five inches from my mouse is a stainless Ruger GP100 and a stainless S&W 5906. There is a Glock 17 about 3 feet behind me. There is a Remington 870 and Ruger Mini-14 about 20 feet in front of me.

Hopefully, that will last me until I can get the safe open. :)

Right now it is 3.5 miles away in my safe... :uhoh:

Unfortunately, the company I work for has a dim view of 'personal protection' on-site... :banghead:

When I am home though, the .45 is within reach at ANY time... :D

For me, not all that close, at least not a firearm. At the moment I am in my living room. Long guns are locked in a closet downstairs. Closest loaded gun (two handguns) is locked in a safe in my bedroom down the hallway. Safe is unlocked when I go to bed, other than that guns remain locked up due to children in the home. I have been considering "carrying" around the house but haven't so far.

One on my hip, another next to the laptop (where a mouse pad would be). See - there is a good reason to use a "trackball". :D

I have several located in hide in plain sight locations in my house. I always have a handgun right next to me. Shotgun in the bedroom. Sometimes a rifle with me.

If you can only afford one gun for the house, get a good quality handgun that you like and keep it with you near always.

But I live alone and have the luxury of doing this. Obviously if you have little kids around, you can't really do this.

Glock 30 IWB or P32 in pocket at all times at home. 870 and Romanian 22 propped up in corner behind me. Due to kid factor, weapons on me only are loaded while it takes some time to obtain ammo and ready the others.

Exactly 3 feet away from me as I type. When at home, my LW Commander it no more than 5-6 feet away from me.
