How did you get your first firearm?

My first gun was a FEG .32 auto that my grandfather picked up in France during WWII. He said all his buddies wanted a Mauser or Walther from a German soldier but he picked this pistol up off of a windowsill in a small village that was all but abandoned.

He gave it to me when he and my grandmother decided to sell the house and move to a retirement community. I kept it and fired it at one range session, then put it away. After I graduated college, got a job and got married, it was stolen from the apartment I was living in here in Cincinnati.

I still have the leather holster and one magazine (the other was in the pistol). The police were wholly uninterested when I filed a report.

Granddad's gone now. I had no plans to fire the pistol any more, but I sure wish I still had it :(

Got a BP cva .50 from a pawn shop when i was 15, it was the only thing my mom would let my have since i had a younger brother and sister. I paid 99$ of saved up birthday money. Just wanted to go hunting.

"Springfield 84-C" POS from a Hattiesburg, MS pawn shop in 1992 for $80.00. :uhoh:

After refinishing the stock and fixing the trigger (it liked to fire about a quarter of the time when you closed the bolt), it become my MOA .22LR and my scouts favorite rifle. :D

Like alot of other lucky folks here at THR i had a father who taught me to shoot and to shoot well. first gun of mine is a Remington Fieldmaster pump action .22 LR given to me by my dad. it also was my father's first gun given to him by my grandfather when my dad was in the Boy Scouts. im going to keep it forever. cheers SS.45

I was 23 and stationed in Georgia, a guy in my unit had a Springfield XD9.
This guy, one day didnt show up for PT formation.
Nor did he return calls, nor answer the knocks on his door.
He was up all night drinking and smoking blunts and slept through the morning.
So they reduced him in rank, took half his pay, and began separation proceedings.

In the midst of which he claimed "Hey, you guys can't kick me out of the Army!? I declare myself as a conscientious objector, im a Buddhist!"
(which was odd since he always claimed agnosticism)

The chaplain talked to him and was like "Oh so you adhere to the 7 tenants of blah blah blah"
to which he replied "no, im just a buddhist"

I say to him "look, the man is taking half your pay, they are kicking you out on a dishonorable, youre not going to be able to legally own any guns from now on, you need cash, You have a 9mm, and youre claiming to be a buddhist?! Sell me your 9 for 300$, and youll no longer have that conflict of interest, nor be at risk legally for owning a firearm when you are not allowed to own one anymore"

Typed up a Bill of Sale, went to the ATM, and the Springfield XD9 was mine.
:)

Now I know I have been doing something wrong... My dad is suppose to buy me guns not the other way around.. :what: Well he has more time to enjoy them than I do so it is better off I guess. :)

I've fired a M1 in the military, but the first gun that I purchased is a S&W model 686-4pp. .357 magnum with a 6" ported barrel.

My father in-law gave me his old .22 rifle earlier this year. Shortly after, I got bit by the bug, and bought my first handgun. A revolver in .357 mag. After that my grandfather in-law gave me his old but sweeeeet S&W M&P revolver that his dad bought over 60 years ago.:neener: Cool in-laws...huh.:)
Wish my family was able to hold onto their guns that well.

Good move!! Opportunity knocks!! Hats off to you sir!

But, why not offer $250 just to see?

10/22 my father gave me when I was about 10. A .410 H&R came around the same time. I was lucky enough to grow up in a rural area with a Dad that loves firearms as much as me.

bought a Portuguese Mauser 1904/38, my beginner rifle. Browsed over the .22's and went straight for the 8x57 :D! Unfortunately I sold it by now.

I acquired my first BB gun at the age of 8. Twas a Daisy pump BB rifle, gifted to me by my father. We got it at a hardware store. I used to carry it to shoot small game in the woods and along the railroad tracks. I lost it while running from the railroad cops for trespassing on their land when I was 14. It probably went to serve the kid of a CSX Railway Policeman after that.

As for a real gun, I was given a Star BM9 by a friend when I was 19, and was having some problems with my girlfriend's husband (hey, it was shock to me too, had no idea at the time). These things happen, but the gun always felt dirty to me. It shot garbage for groups. Eventually, things blew over, and my buddy got his gun back.

MY first actual gun is a Beretta 96D .40 caliber that I bought last spring. I still carry it daily. It was a law enforcement turn-in, and was sparingly used by an investigator with the Virginia ABC Police.

I got my first gun -s&w model 642- this past June at the ripe old age of 59. I inherited it from my father-in-law. I had never shot a gun prior to that, and so was shocked by the noise and recoil. When my son saw how much trouble I had shooting it, he offered to trade it for the s&w model 10 that he inherited from my husband several years ago. Figuring I'd be better off starting with a .22lr, he also gave me a Colt Huntsman that he inherited from my father-in-law. The model 10 was easier to shoot that the 642, but I fell in love with the Huntsman.

Since inheriting my first gun June, I:
> Joined a gun club & go to the range at least 3x/week
> Bought another .22 (ruger 22/45 Mark III, 5 1/2" bull barrel)
> Made a long list of other guns I "have to have."
> Joined 2 gun forums
> Attended one gun show
> Added a bunch of new words and acronyms to my vocabulary
> Discovered (to my great surprise) that I'm better at hitting where I'm aiming that I ever imagined I'd be

I've been bitten by the bug, but man, this is one expensive hobby! :)

My first gun was a little single shot Steven's (I think) 22 that my Dad bought for me when I was about 11. I really loved that little gun, but the sights were way off and couldn't be adjusted enough to get POI the same as POA. So Dad took it down and had the shop he bought it from put a 4X scope on it, which was great... I loved that gun. I don't know what happened to it though, disappeared when we moved.

My first handgun was a Taurus 357 that I traded a 10/22 and $150.00 for when I was 18. It was a private transaction in Arizona, but I also looked a lot older then I was so I don't think the guy I bought it from realized I was only 18. I later traded that and some cash for a Colt King Cobra, which I still have and LOVE!
