I was told by Springfield Armory to use a Nylon Punch just smaller than the Dovetail.

But the did not tell me what or how to do it. Am i supposed to tap the punch against the side of the rear dovetail until it is where it needs to be?

This doesn't sound right to me and I am not sure if it is correct.

Please help! :banghead:

Remove the slide from the frame. Mount the slide in a padded vise(to keep from marring the slide), don't overtighten the vise just snug it up. If the pistol is shooting to the right tap the rear sight to the left.

Tap it to the left? Hmmm...which left? I mean the left on the slide release side or the left on the ejection side...it does shoot to the right and the sight is already shifted towards the slide release side...make sense?

I assumed, if it was shooting right, tap it to the "ejection side" of the slide...this way, it straightens out the line of sight....but i may be wrong...

It ain't too hard to figure. If it is shooting to the right. Tapping the rear sight to the left(as you are holding it to fire) would shift your line of sight to the point of impact. In effect moving the new point of impact to the left.

Another way to visualize it is, if you have three dots in a row, and move one of the dots at the end of the row, 45 degrees out of line with the other two, which way do you move the dot at the opposite end, in order to have them line up in a straight line? The opposite way.
Now this is an exaggerated example, but the basic principal is the same.

Hope I'm not spreading baseless rumor here, but my local dealer told me that one of the refinishing guys he uses regularly won't work on XDs due to the fact that their sights are staked in so tight that he broke a sight pusher. I don't know as I didn't get it straight from the horse's mouth, so take it with a grain of salt.

Adjusting pistol sights.

You travel the rear sight as your are aim it in the direction you want the bullet impact to move...Shooting low...move the rear sight up. Shooting to the right...move the rear sight to the left.
Took me years to force myself to remember this!
