How do you carry extra mags for cCW?

Folks, I recently purchased a CZ83 for concealed carry, and I would like to carry an extra mag, but don't like the idea of carrying it in my pocket (uncovered and unprotected) and was wondering if any of you had any suggestion regarding how to carry an extra mag? For my CZ70 I purchased several little mag holsters from Makarov.com a few years ago, but I don't know if anything like that is available for the CZ83 sized mags. Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

When I carry a Makarov (rarely), I usually carry the mag in a rear or side pocket. I don't have mag holsters.

I use a Milt Sparks pouch. I don't know what your price tolerance is, but it might be more than you wanted to spend.

I guess in order to make a recommendation to you, you need to give an idea of where, how often, and how long you intend to carry. If all you're doing is going to the range, carrying on evenings or weekends, and such, you might not see the value in a higher end mag pouch.

I don't carry extra mags, my CZ holds 14 rds, If I run out of ammo, I just run like hell.

pocket, the least I ever carry is 22 rds of any caliber, that is for anything except my Glock 29 that I happen to have 2 factory pouches for. I won't run EITHER, if they make it past 31 rds total for my G29, they meet 2 razor sharp Kershaws up close and personal.

Has there ever been a reported and verified situation where a non-LEO/military needed to shoot in self defense and either successfully defended himself with the 8th or higher shot but not the first seven, or UNsuccessfully defended himself where it is even conceivable more rounds would have made him successful? Remember the purpose of citizen carry is to save your skin, not take on military missions.

The whole idea of extra mags strikes me as a bit mall-ninja ish. I cannot conceive of a realistic situation where extra mags would be the difference. Sure if eight extremely determined people attacked me (heck I'm not that good a shot let's say I miss a few or need two rounds each) that means the fourth guy needs to be still coming after I have shot three of his friends and then fired one at him. Since I can't recall that happening before I doubt it will happen to me. I'm not out there looking to lay down cover fire or take on some Russian mafia family so I'll just have to put up with only 7 rounds. Anything that is still putting me at risk of death or serious injury after that deserves to succeed.

My pocket guns have a small leather mag pouch that covers about half of the mag. I keep a spare mag in my other front pocket. In the winter, when I carry the Glock 23, I have a mag holder I carry on my belt

I use clip on mag carriers from http://www.kdholsters.com/accessories2.shtml. They're not very expensive. If you ask he will make them with black spring clips, which lowers the visbility (I think) if you put 'em inside the waistband with the clip out over the belt.

Maybe I'm an optimist but since I'm not an LEO and although I do carry one reload for .38 special in a small container or speedloader in a pocket, I figure that if after 14 rds of 9MM or 8 rds of .45 ACP I'm still in trouble it's time to do like Average Joe says and get them feets to moving.

I use a Fobus single mag pouch. It's a paddle style, like the holster, so it just slids over the waistband of my jeans. Very comfortable and quite affordable. The webpage is here.

Thanks, folks, for all your great suggestions. I really like what I saw on the KD holster web page, as well as the Desantis mag packer. I will make my decision some time soon. It is not that I am some "mall ninja", but if I'm carrying a semi auto and the mag malfunctions, whether I have shot 1 or 13 rounds, I like another mag to pop into place. Don't have this problem with my little J frame snubbie! Thanks again!

Don't carry an extra mag. If you can't hit what you want with the ammo already in your CZ, your in trouble buddy.

Some recommend the extra mag not for the increased capacity but in the event of a malfunction.

Drop the mag clear the jam and reload.

I am not one of those that will subscribe to NOT carrying a back up magazine. The mag is an integral part of the weaopn. If it fails in any way, you now have a high dollar single shot. I always carry a back up mag just to try to keep Mr. Murphy at bay as long as possible. But, I also always carry a tac light, even in daylight. Am I over cautious? Some would say yes. I have had a lot of training in defensive deployment of a concealed weapon. I also spend time unloading, cleaning, and checking my weapon and mags on a regular and consistant basis.

For mag carry, I carry one for the G19 with a +2 base next to a Surefire tac light in a Fobus paddle carrier. But, I also carry in cargo pockets depending on the clothes I am wearing.

I usually carry a 1911, SIG 220,SIG 245 or Browning High Power.

With the 1911 I carry the spares in a Fobus double paddle carrier. However if I know I will be out at night I use a Blade Tech carrier for one magazine and a Surefire 6P flashlight. That one is a belt slide.

The Sigs I usually carry a Milt Sparks holster with matching single carrier made of brown or black leather depending on color belt and shoes....the wife insists I follow fashion.

Browning HP I use a Fobus paddle single carrier. The gun in a much earlier Fobus inside the waist band leather holster. I find these actually carry quite well.

A) Not that I know of.
B) Not willing to be the first one.

I always carry spare ammo, two spares in an Uncle Mikes double mag pouch, helps balance the weight of the gun on the other side.

I don't care spare mags. I am not expecting to be in a fire fight. If I engage, I figure two or three shots and it's over--for somebody.

If I want more ammo, I carry my Glock with it's high cap magazine. Otherwise, I feel quite safe with a 1911 or even my 5-shot snubbie.

Since I generally carry either a single stack Kimber in .45 or a single stack 10mm 1076, and it's possible that any attackers might not be working solo, I use a nylon knife pouch on the other hip as a mag carrier. Flap covers the mag so nobody knows it's anything but a knife.

It depends on the situation for me.

Sometimes I go "all out" and carry an extra mag with a surefire light in a Brommeland combo carrier plus one more mag in my left front pocket.

Other times I forego the bag and light carrier and just stoke the pocket with an extra mag or two.

Each pair of pants I buy comes with two tactical mag carriers. Some people like to call them back pockets. I've done many thousands of presentations, drawing various objects, including pistol magazines, from my so-called back pockets. Because I'm already very familiar with this type of mag carrier, I carry an extra 7rd mag (sometimes two) in my left back pocket, eschewing aftermarket carriers.
