How expensive is your carry gun?

so im not one to carry a terribly expensive gun....for the obvious reasons, they get knocked around, sweated on, and you will potentially lose it if you ever use it.......

but i got to thinking just how expensive my setup is, it once i tallied up the cost of the gun + mods, i was shocked to find out its almost $900 (Gen4 G17 with mods).

so i was just curious to see what the typical value of most peoples carry setups are.

if you were given or otherwise got your gun for free (or abnormally cheap), use the cost it would be to replace it.

 

There are some 1911 guys with tricked out 1911s that cost way more and they carry them all the time!

 

J frame 357 model 60. I was going to say 500-600 but that looks like it was 5 years ago's price.

 

When carry weapon when new, MSRP was $800. Street price they go for about 600 and do about as much today. That price point is just around the right amount to have great quality but not too much attachment if lost to an investigation.

 

Glock 43 in summer, Glock 19 otherwise. Reliable, plenty of power, and planning on losing one- but hoping I don't.

 

Standard Gen3 G19, so I voted $5-600.

What mods do you have on your Glock that raised the price by $3-400??

 

I'm kind of shocked too, I think... Does the S&W 1911PD with Crimson Trace grips really go for $1000+?

 

One was about $300, one was $400, and one was $600.

My regular carry was $400.

 

This ran me $1,150 It came to almost $1,200 after shipping and FFL transfer.

 

M&P costs around 500

 

I didn't find out till afterwards that the girl doesn't come with the gun...

Function and reliability is more important than price.

But price does not necessarily make a good, reliable, functioning gun.

 

Are we talking original cost or replacement cost? Mine were fairly inexpensive when I bought them back in the 70's & 80's, but the replacement cost would be much greater. That's if I could even find a couple of them.

My favorite summer time carry is a S&W model 60 Chief Special that was around the $400 mark. Don't know what the replacement cost would be.

 

Used Lcp with $40 in up grades, spring,guide rod and grip, pocket holster all under 3 bills.
Used g 26, replaced recoil spring with OEM one, sticky holster $350.
If I were buying new, then I could see the higher price, but the used gun market is starting to get flooded again with perfectly serviceable semis.

 

99% of the time. One cost over 2k the other 399.00..

 

About $700 invested in my CZ Compact 9mm with after-market night sights and grips. Multiplied by two since I have two identical Compacts, my primary and my spare. Or I guess you could triple the original amount since I keep a RAMI handy as well for lighter carry.... Hmmmm. I guess I have more tied up in current carry guns than I thought... I guess I need to also add another $400 or so for the LCR 22LR in my front pocket... I hope my child-bride does not read this post!

Got mine at a gun shop used. Glock 26, altered by Bowie Tactical Concepts, for $400! Flat, tax included.



I added a NY-1 trigger and 3.5 lb connector for a 8 lb trigger pull.

And that's that. Came with Heinnie night sights to boot.

I've used it for over five years now and I have NO PLANS on changing it. I have a second Glock 26 I use in local IDPA matches and as a practice gun. It also has a NY-1 and 3.5 lb connector.

And my secondary CCW gun, a S&W Centennial Airweight 'Professional' model cost me (it was used to, mint condition) $345 bucks! And that's tax included.

My guns are insured, in or out of the house, so it doesn't matter how much they cost.

 

Taurus 709 Slim, ankle holster or in the pocket. $275

Kel Tec P-11, hip holster or in the pocket with baggy pants. $300

Occasionally, I'll carry my S&W 469, OWB holster. $250

Ruger P89, no holster for it just yet, so no carry. $300.

Next hand gun I get will be a 1911, government model, probably a RIA or something inexpensive.

I don't carry my AR pistol, but it's probably at around $750, but I didn't select it on the poll.

 

She comes with the gun, you just didn't purchase the right package.




As for the OP's question, my carry cost me $450 brand new back in 1991. However, my current belt ran me about $100 and the holster, if I recall correctly, was $135 or so. That adds up to $785. Toss in some odds and ends, like the magazine pouch and the Gold Dot ammo, and it's a smidgen over $800.

 

The higher end needs a few more levels.

 

The Old Fuff is a cheapskate, and that's being generous...

All of the guns he regularly carries cost $300 or less - mostly less.

But he bought them back during the last century.

Today they would run around two to three times that cost.

 

This ran me right around $350 with the holster and mag pouch. Everything pictured was less than $500. To be fair in addition to having usable sights, a faster mag release, and a slide lock, you do have to put up with it being .2" longer, .3 taller and a couple of ounces heavier.

Although I carry this gun it is not my primary carry. These tiny guns are in the words of Ken Hackathorn, "the best carry gun in the world until you have to use it." They have a niche and that's why I own a couple of mouse guns.

My primary carry gun has changed over the years and run everywhere from used glocks worth my $400 (+$100 or so for sights) to a multi thousand dollar (probably $3-4k) 1911. I want the best tool for the job at hand and cost is secondary. These days I prefer striker fired 9x19 guns and mostly carry a Glock or HK. The most expensive one is $600ish new plus sights and the cost of the surefire it wears sometimes.

 

Usually ~$600, but if'n I have my Sunday best 1911 on, it's $2700, plus $225 for the holster...
