I recently made a large purchase at a posted store. I didn't even see the signs until I was leaving the first time because the door was held open for me upon entering. I considered not purchasing there and informing them why but the deal was just to good to pass up.

So how far will you go to take your business elsewhere? Do you give up convience? Pay more for the same product or the same for lesser products?

The only posted place I will do business with is the main hospital in Anchorage. My insurance won't cover anyplace else for major stuff. I have returned items to stores when in your situation with a polite explanation as to why. I will pay more to a store that does not restrict carry.

Well, we have a posted mall in my city. The sign is one of those transparent decals on the glass, barely readable anyway. I did some research and while it *is* private property, the worst they could do is ask me to leave. If I refuse, I'm facing a trespassing charge, a misdemeanor.

I carry regardless. It's almost impossible to see the P11 in the IWB anyway.

My adherence to my "principles" in this regard drives my wife crazy. She just doesn't get it but now just shows quiet discust. I will drive 40 miles out of the way and pay more to avoid patronizing a criminal protection zone. There probably are things for which she would not compromise her principles, but they are not the kind of things that confront us in daily life. She hates that my not compromising my principles inconvenience her.

Yes to all. It's a matter of principle to me, and I can't compromise on a principle.

I absolutely refuse to patronize any posted location. I'd rather drive a little further and pay a little more than leave my Kimber in the truck and risk it being stolen. Or take a chance being unarmed in a store that is actually advertising that it's patrons are defenseless. And I let them know why.

Fortunately, there are very, very few posted locations where I live. Even the hospital we use isn't posted.

I know of no posted businesses where I might want to deal. Actually I only know of one Mall that's posted.

I won't deal with a posted business.

This is the more compelling reason to me and is why I ask my wife and children (who would not be armed anyway) not to patronize these places.

absolutely. i will drive further and pay more. i support those that support me. i have and am a respector of principles. i do my best to conduct myself as a gentleman should. civilization could use a few more billions of us.

What No Brakes said

Like NO Brakes said,
In California, especially southern California, no big deal. We have enough duplication of businesses that are relatively close by so...there you go.
Competition for business is fairly fierce in the city and in the suburbs, so it is fairly easy to find another business which will take your money.
Good luck in finding your places that want your business.

I'd like to add a small question. How many of you also inform the place that you spend money in that you do it because they don't post no carry signs?

I'm a principled pragmatist.
I know that the 25,000 Minnesota permit holders, 7/10ths of 1% of the adult population, don't represent a compelling economic interest to the merchants. Further, I have no interest in cutting off my nose to spite my face.

At the same time, squeaky wheels do get the grease. Not that very many places posted, but in the first months, we-of-the-polite-persuasion managed to get signs taken down at Northern Tool, Home Depot, Famous Dave's, Old Navy, Gap, Don Pablo's, and a number of banks and restaurants.

My policy is this: I always call or stop in, talk to a manager, and explain why I'm unhappy and will choose their competitors.

Then, I shop where it's reasonably convenient, favoring the no-sign places when I can.

...you mean, these posted stores are talking to us ??? I thought they were only talking to the law upholding... hold up scum bags... go figure !!!!

Last time I was up in MN on business, I found the hotel restaurant was posted. The next day, I informed the hotel's manager that when I met up with some local colleagues from work, we WERE going to have dinner at the restaurant, but upon seeing the sign, we decided to honor their policy by dining elsewhere. And that even though I wasn't personally "packing" since MN had not established reciprocity with TX, :( I would not be staying at that hotel in the future.

I was polite and reasonable, he listened to me, and . . . the sign was GONE that afternoon! :D (I thanked him the next day.)

One step at a time . . .

Do you guys have any type of limit? Would you pay $50 more? $100? $1000? $5000?

Same here. Not all principles are created equal, of course, but standing up for the nation's civil rights is up near the top of my list.

That saidâ„¢, I have to admit I've never seen a posted business where I live in Colorado. That's not to say there aren't any, but I've never seen one.

While i've never seen a sign posted at any of them, I know as a former employee that Wal-Mart has a company policy of no handguns in thier stores. All new employees take a computer based learning modules to "train" them about how to work there, etc. Well, back when I worked there one of these "training" sessions briefly went over what to do if you ever see someone with a gun in the store. But essentially thier policy is no guns... I still shop there myself though :uhoh: just some food for thought.

My wife and I vote with our wallets all the time. If it is posted, we don't shop or go there. The things I hold dear to me, are my responsibility to protect. There is always another bank, restaurant, gas station etc. that I can go to that welcomes our business. Life is too short to let some condescending prick (with a homemade no guns sign) dictate our safety.

Our 1 exception for this rule is gunshows. I completely understand why they do not want loaded/concealed weapons there.

Sorry for the slight rant, but I am very passionate about this alarming trend in America. :cuss:
