How good are CMMG rifles ?

I bought mine for a little under $1000, it seems to have a well staked gas key, and I hear all the parts are Mil-Spec. I've just never heard much about them.

Well, when you see people put WTB ads up and they say they want good guns, no OLY or cmmg...... go from there.

 

CMMG has a good reputation from everything iv heard. Belt Fed is literally the first negative report iv ever read (and its just hearsay)

There are just a couple companies that make the receivers for all of the AR manufactures, and only a couple that make uppers as well. As long as the gas key is staked well (which your pictures indicate it IS) then I see no point in comparing manufacturers.

 

I have an AR in 9mm from CMMG -- at almost 5000 rounds she's been ultra reliable and a blast to shoot!

 

I don't own any CMMG products but have seen many and you can see the owners at Gunshows in MO fairly regularly. I have also never heard a bad word about CMMG from anyone around here.

 

For almost $1000 it better be pretty good.

 

CMMG makes fine rifles.

 

Before the new administration, those rifles went for $600 at gun shows. At that time, most people referred to them as Frankensteins. Now you can buy Stags and DPMS for a better price than the CMMG.

 

CMMG makes an excellent AR.

 

Regarding them being Frankenguns, wasn't that just because they sold some rifles for about $500-$600 they couldn't sell as new becuase they were made from a mix of parts that couldn't be warrantied. I don't think those were normal production.

 

If they had a bad reputation they wouldn't be backordered to oblivion.

 

Both the upper I bought from CMMG and the barrel I got from them have been excellent.

The only 'problem' was the long wait time. After getting the upper I was impressed enough to get a barrel from them, even with the 4 month lead time.

They are on MY short list for repeat businesses. BSW

 

I am also very happy with my CMMG rifle.

I can also add that I got customer service after the sale that was above and beyond what I expected.

I would definitely recommend CMMG to my friends.

You are correct.

CMMG sold what they called Bargain Bin guns. According to their website, the guns were pieced together, some of them with trade in uppers, most with unmarked barrels, etc. These guns sold for about $600. They are not the regular CMMG guns. Many of them didn't use CCMG receivers (not that the receiver matters all that much).

 

I think you mean DPMS.

CMMG is one of the few genuinely mid-tier manufacturers. Main thing to fix would be to put in a mil-spec extractor spring, insert, and o-ring, if it's a carbine.

I have a M4LEP and it has been a great rifle. If you go to AR15.com forums they have a very good rep with the AR crowd. Mine is a gas piston model and it has been reliable and accurate. I've only put a few hundred rounds through it but I am looking forward to many more.

I will buy another one as soon as funds become available and I would recommend it to anyone.

 

as said before, the 600$ CMMG's were bargain bin bastard childs. they were spare parts made into rifle, some times with out a CMMG part in them at all. they are NOT in any way representative of CMMG products, they were simply CMMG clearing out the garage of other peoples parts acquired through various means.

comparing DPMS to CMMG is laughable at best, insulting at worse.

 

Beltfed is the only person I have seen offering such a low opinion of CMMG.

 

hell, their regular uppers are right around 500-550. the only reason you could get some of their guns for 600 was because of the bargain basement mis match guns that they told you what they were and why they were priced like that. they make an excellent ar.

 

You have one, so shoot it and tells us how good it is! Their specs are satisfactory to me, and their choices are unparalleled. I've had problems with CMMG, and will not buy or recommend them, but you see many good reports...but bad ones, too...far more than Colt and LMT. To me, this means quality control suffers. HOWEVER, if you got a good one, great! If not, get rid of it and move on.

 

had no problems with mine, but i sold it and got 2 6920s and a lmt



no idea why no carry handle on the other 6920. sig 556 is long gone, sob is too heavy
