How Long to Hold Grudge

Smith and Wesson is making some of the best guns they've ever made, including revolvers. Give them a chance. As others have said, they're under new management now and their Clinton-era "wheeling and dealing" political days are over. They're a great American brand.

That ship has sail and sunk. S&W is a totally different company and has completely turned things around IMHO. Among the best, if not the best customer support in the industry.

My only complaint is they had to create yet another proprietary magazine for the Victory instead of using the same mags as the M22A or M&P .22. Otherwise I'd have bought one already.

Love my 7.5" bull barrel M22, although S&W has repaired it three times, at no cost to me beyond a drive to the FedEx store in the ~100K rounds I've run through it in the 10+ years I've had it -- so I can understand how they might want to discontinue it for an improved design. The "hybrid" of Browning Buckmark and Ruger MK II design features would seem a winner to me.

Ironically, the only really bad customer service experience I have ever had with a gun manufacturer was with S&W about 4 years ago. It's a long story and not worth going into here but, suffice it to say, the grudge thing definitely applies. I haven't purchased a thing from them since. Hi point frankly has better customer service IMO.

Big name reputable "good" manufacturers sometimes have bad or terrible customer service. Like Surefire...I'm waiting on their slow lazy incompetent terrible customer service still as we speak :cuss:

A business decision ............ They have share/stock holders to consider.

If you feel that strongly about their decision, don`t buy there products.

A browning buckmark is an excellent 22 pistol. I enjoy mine very much. I have the SS camper model. Buy a buckmark if you don't like a S&W pistol.

Bull

The English holding company that owned S&W was evidently Anti gun. their decision cost them big time. I think we are fortunate that S&W is now back in American hands. Now if they would just ship my order I'd be really happy.

Certain things will never be erased from my memory, and that includes the shock upon seeing the prices Cheaper Than Dirt was asking for ammo, magazines, and other items during some bad times. I initially thought they had to be misprints, the sums were so egregious, but no, that's what they were charging.

No matter what, I will never buy from them. If they are the only ones with a certain product, I will do without. If they're cheaper on an item, I'll bite the bullet, so to speak, and pay more elsewhere.

They will never get another penny from me, and I will take every opportunity to educate others as to why.

Please hold the comments about capitalism. During the war, and even during fuel shortages, price gouging was a crime. During some of the times we've experienced, I'd equate what they did with moral and ethical crimes.

"To hold a grudge with S&W for actions taken during the Clinton administration is to be angry with a ghost. The old leadership is gone; the company is under a new umbrella with new management (SWHC) and has since proven by its actions that those words no longer hold."

Then they need to stop placing the lock in their revolvers and return the J frame and K frame revolver dimensions back to where they originally were, not the retarded guppy humpback frames with the lock abomination they are now.

The only grudge I might hold against a company is if they made a product that they knew might have problems, sold it anyways, and then didn't back it up with even halfway decent customer service.

The worst part about CTD wasn't the stupid prices. It was the fact that they cancelled orders that had been placed pre price hike, saying out of stock then immediately offered the same item at a 2000% price hike. That was inexcusable, and is why I won't ever buy from them.

Well thanks for all the replies. More than I expected. I think RC put it best in post 23. You can't rightly blame the current mgt of S&W for the actions of the old owners & mgt. I am glad to see that most said to drop it. I have held one and looked it over and I liked it a lot. I have also been thinking that the SW22 Victory w/ threaded barrel would be a great pistol for a silencer. I have read that they run fine with one on the end of the barrel. nh

I wouldn't buy any S&W revolver with a lock, but that's because it's a bad and dangerous design.

Their M&P and M1911 style semi-auto handguns are another story altogether. I don't own any, but I would, probably a Shield or one of their Commander size M1911s.

Now HS Precision, the stock makers who used an endorsement from Lon "Aamon Goethe" Horiuchi? I wouldn't buy water from them in the middle of the Sahara Desert.

CTD was dead to me long before what they pulled after Sandy Hook. Shipping items from multiple warehouses w/ multiple shipping fees was the norm. I do not like their business model so I chose not to shop there.

The only manufacturer I will not buy a product from is Colt. They made the decision to live off government contracts and abandon the civilian market. They are paying for that decision dearly at the moment. I just won't give them my hard earned money at this point in time. I doubt this will change in the future but I will never say never. Ownership would have to change along w/ availability and pricing before I considered it.

The top three of their leadership came to a local gun store a few years back after this decision was made. This issue was addressed and their justification was there was too much liability associated with an "open to all comers" policy. They did not want to pursue a more restrictive and more expensive alternative e.g. members only for a higher fee. They do run a training program which offers classes to US and foreign LE and military clients.
This results in curious gatherings at local restaurants of very fit, short-haircutted males who all want to sit with their backs to the wall with eyes on the till!

I had a failure on my S&W M&P Sport about 6 weeks ago now, S&W took care of it by replacing the BCG free of charge, they covered shipping too.

Being without the rifle for 3 weeks including transit time really sucked, but they took care of me in the end.

I'm satisfied with how they handled it.

And remember that it was Bill Ruger who didn't want normal capacity magazines for the Mini-14 sold to the common people.

Not exactly true. Congress already had the votes and an AWB was coming. Ruger knew that it was coming and used his connections to lobby for the limit to be 10 rounds instead of the 7 round limit proposed. A lot of people misunderstand that subtle difference and don't tell the whole story.

Here's my system:

You screw me, we're done.
However, if you actively make reparations, we can talk.
Then if you go one better, we are square.

Downside: I don't have many friends.
Upside: I trust my friends with my life.

In my humble opinion, If you cut someone off, that's not a "grudge" that's just smart. A grudge is like a mental feud - you are still engaging the offending party when you should just put them out of your mind.

Bill Ruger is dead as he can be and Ruger is now selling items that are making Bill Ruger roll in his grave. Roll Bill roll.

I'm not holding a grudge with S&W but Cheaper Than Dirt is another story. I don't think I will ever shop there again.

The Victory is pretty sweet. I can't wait until some of the LGS's around here get the threaded model in stock.
I'm with you on Cheaper Than Dirt - I will NEVER do business with them again. Sent them an email telling them so. So, I guess NEVER is a long time.

No, no it's not. Capitalism has nothing to do with short term effects in a market and price gouging.

Capitalism is an economic system based on private ownership of the means of production and their operation for profit. Capitalism really only addresses normal markets, the definition was never designed to address external shocks to a market place.

Gouging is still gouging, and yes some capitalists are evil. An no, I will never buy from CTD.

Another vote to buy S&W and never again buy from CTD!
