How many carry a knife along with their primary

I often carry more than one, a switch blade, small pocket like a Spyderco, and my Leatherman tool. I would feel naked without at least one on me for daily use, and they get used all the time.

I carry two knives but I sure don't plan to use them for defense. One is a Swiss army knife that strips wire and slices my bagel for lunch. The other is a tiny Gerber Curve on my keychain that get used if I forget the Swiss. Either one will open a package or with the screwdriver blade, open a control panel door.

Always have a knife. Even when I don't have a gun (can't carry at new job).

Don't think of it as a weapon, just for cutting stuff. Don't haul around the flashlight anymore either. I managed a bar for several years, and the knife and light were indispensable. The Glock made me feel better a couple three times as well...

Always do, and I carry it on my weak side (but I usually have two knives, one on each side). You can have the best "combat" knife available, but if you don't know how to properly use it then it will do you no good. Make sure you get some proper training with it.

Usually it's between a Benchmade Mini Griptilian and a Kershaw Scallion as my take along knife with my CCW.

Knives are in a huge renaissance of designs and materials, but absolutely aren't any better as a weapon than they were 1,000 years ago. And a man armed with just a knife then was no match for one with a sword, lance, or bow.

The other side of that coin, of course, is that knives are also just as good a weapon as they were 1,000 years ago, and are-as you mention-enjoying a renaissance, something that cannot be said of their historical peers. Still very good at their narrow focus place in the tool hierarchy, IMHO.

i cant imagine even the refined gentlemen not carrying at the very least a small pocket folder.... or has that fallen out of favor with metrosexuals?
I can imagine it. But I'm a fine gentleman and always carry a knife of some kind. :D

Honestly, I would rather carry the knife than a gun. If I put on pants in the morning, there is usually a knife in one pocket. But it is a tool and not for defensive purposes.

So, gym, definitely carry a knife. The choices are substantial from big to small from assisted openers to slipjoints. The gravity knives are pretty fast too in addition to the assisted openers. I view them as being equal in speed to deploy. Hard to beat a Spyderco Delica for general knife carry, but it is not an assisted opener.

What an odd question... it's not a weapon; it's a daily necessity, like shoes or something.

I'll never understand how "civilised" people (with an "s") get through life without a knife. Must spend an awful lot of time asking after a pair of nail scissors, or something.

I used to carry my Buck110 auto-conversion, but now I‘‘m in love with my new microtech ultratech OTF it is truly an amazing knife , double edged one side fully serrated one plain edge.

I always thought that as a "weapon" a knife could too easily be used against you, I carry a little buck in my fanny pack, but even when I took martial arts, in my youth, knives as a offensive weapon can be taken away with a little skill unless the guy you are up against is a true professional knife fighter.
I am recently feeling that it still may be a good thing to fall back on.
Most of you southern gents are more apt to be knife fans than us ex city dwellers. ot too many new Yorkers carry a blade. It's more where you grew up.
Here in FL more foks carry them. I would think that has a lot to do with it

Actually carry two Spyderco Delicas, one strong-side, one "weak"...
Got put on to them after taking Defensive Folding Knife from Insights Tactical in Issiquah, WA last year...
My normal CCW is a SIG 238 but this is my jogging rig, or my 442, or if I'm lazy an NAA in a neck holster, with two knives...

I always carry at least one knife, a Benchmade HK auto is a permanent fixture clipped in my pocket. I also have a couple of fixed blades that I carry when on duty.

That's an ugly little monster, I can imagine it could do a lot of damage quickly in the right hands. Gonna have to look into one....

perhaps with a blunted training knife......but with an actual sharpened blade, i dont see it........hell, ide give anyone here $100 if they can freehand get a knife out of my hands without cutting their hands to shreds.

Always! I keep a machete,"razor sharp"on the dash of my truck. If I am in a parking lot, I never keep the passenger window below a half. My window is most tmes down if I am waiting . My door locks are on, always, If someone tries to come through my window, I find it easier to grab my large knife and see if they can get through that big razor blade with their fists or arms. I do not keep my carry gun in a holster while I am in a vehicle...to much trouble to get it out, stays within easy grasp. . The big knife is is easy to grab and cover. Concealed with a towel.

I've carried a knife since I was about twelve...1962. Seems like I need to open something or cut something shorter or sharpen a pencil every day. I think every male adult in my family carried a knife. :D

gym,

You've had a few posts in NonFirearmsWeapons so you're aware of the information there.

What do you mean by "Any thoughts"?

Should you carry a knife? Sure, everybody should (but you'd expect me to say that).

What knife should you carry? That's up to you and dependent upon what you want to use it for. Considering the context of your opening post and since you say you don't carry a knife every day, the assumption is that you want to carry a knife for defensive purposes. What that might be depends upon several factors like local laws, training, price range, ...

You might want to check up what your permitted to carry where you live and then drop back into NFW and look around.

Gonna have to look into one....

There will be a full good/bad/surprising review in the non firearms section south of here if I can ever sit down and copypasta/collate my notes and take some purty pictures.

In short, well thought out, useful knives of no nonsense construction, made of quality materials with an excellent heat treat. (Admittedly based on a sample size of one).

In the meantime:

Here are some other knives that Sam Owens has ground:

Some long ago martial arts school time as a kid isn't going to be a good reflection on reality. It is not easy to take a knife away from someone that wants to cut you up. The training to actually pull it off without disabling injury isn't trivial. Unless the school you attended used marker knives to show what the point and edge "cut" your education on this is incomplete and misdirected. Also, you're not going to train to be a "professional knife fighter"(whatever in the world that means) and neither is the typical person that might be attacking you (criminals don't spend hours and hours training).

I'll reiterate that more reading in NFW will help develop a better understanding of what a knife can and can't do and what you can and can't do with or against a knife.

I have carried a knife since I was 7. That makes 55 years of knife carrying. Since age 11 or 12 has always had a 4" or longer blade. Never have had to use one in a fight, but I have gone through life with the philosophy that you only fight as a last resort. And that if you have to fight you fight to win.

A lot like Gringo I've carried a knife since my Dad gave me one at about age seven.
Since I can't pack a firearm I ALWAYS have a knife, usually two.

I daily carry a SOG Trident clipped inside my back pocket and a Kershaw Chive in my front pocket. Like guns, two is one, one is none.
