I usually do as well when its something that doesn't impact my life.
In this case though, people shooting at stuff like keyboards has shut down several publicly accessible shooting areas around me, limiting the places I can go to shoot. I do care about that,
    And no that's not cool.

Now, I have a video camera and tripod, as well as the M1 and AP ammo, a portable table, and a range to do it at. If you're interested in shipping me a buncha keyboards and "subcontracting it out", that is..... I also would leave no trash, I love my gun club range too much for that.

Lol, I wouldn't mind, but it would be pretty expensive to ship them.

^^^^This. Glad to hear you cleaned up ChopinBloc. But since I also work with people who scrounge for old computers and parts and ship them to schools in Africa, I could have suggested a better use for cartons of new HP keyboards.

And I swear that's not just sour grapes because I vastly overestimated the number of keyboards. :D

What's next....a Mad Max movie where Gibson is wearing keyboards as protective armor?

I agree with silicosys4. Slob shooters are an insult to responsible shooters everywhere.

To the OP thank you for not leaving all that stuff in the desert.

    Just my .02,

Can you do this with some pistol rounds. Maybe a 9mm fmj and a jhp.
I would have guess a lot more penetration than that.

OT a bit. Our two local web forums have regular clean up days at the pits and forest sites. Great get togethers. Great to clean it spotless. And frankly great PR.

Just reading the poll question and thinking of my 30" waterfowl barrel with a 1 oz punkin ball, I was going to guess about 11-12, which crossed two categories. Then I read your barrel length and I figured it would be 6 or 7.

So I didn't actually vote. I would have been "right," but still overestimating.

I'll go back and vote now. Not cheating, the same vote I would have made anyhow.

18 inch barrel, 1oz slug, I can see why it went like that.

I doubt that a 24" barrel would have gone through any more than two extra keyboards, but I can find out next time if anyone is interested. Anyone know off the top of their head what the velocity difference usually is likely to be?

Lol, okay. What sort of velocity difference could we expect for a 30" barrel?

    chopinbloc axed,

Dunno, but I guarantee the manufacturers' velocities quoted for slugs are from the longest practical length of barrel and that my 30"-er gets almost up to B-17 altitudes. (<Exaggeration for the sake of a good story.)*

A cursory search reveals this, in Myth #4 of this article,

    http://www.fieldandstream.com/node/1005010544

That's the best I can do without making a career out of this data search.

BTW, I really like your posts/videos. Kinda good practical info without being formal, dry, boring, peer-reviewed skyintifical pooblikation material.

    Terry, 230RN

    * Skybusting waterfowl is frowned upon around here. I did bust clays at enormous ranges with it, though.

Depending on the burn rate, it's possible that there are loads that actually lose velocity going from 24" to 30".

    Thank you for the encouragement.

And when I try to tell folks that 12ga slugs are not the deep penetrating hammer of Thor, that they believe they are, they get their panties in a wad. :scrutiny:

I believe you said you were testing from an 18.5" barrel?

And remember, nobody knowledgeable claimed they were all that good in penetration, per se, bearing in mind that they are squishy lead and 3/4" in diameter. A broadhead arrow will probably penetrate better.

But they sure pack a Thor-like wallop.

I am going to use the SWAG method. Guessing energy at 2000 ft lbs. I think I can produce about 60 ft lbs swinging a hammer at a sharp punch, and I think I could get through about 4 keyboards. So thats 15 ft lbs per board. So that means it should go through 133 keyboards. So yeah my guess is all of them.

This is America. We dont lighten up any more.

I shot at an old Chevy truck door with a slug at about 30 feet and it made a god awful dent but bounced off. Now buckshot, that will tear things up.:D
