I thought about the post on only owning 4 or 5 guns at one time.My reply to that is , own as many as you want at any givin time.I myself being 51 yrs old have owned numerous quanities all my life since I was 12yrs old.I never gave it any thought that I better stop buying any more guns because I HAD ENOUGH! look most of you on this board are like me, you have a passion for firearms whether it be rifles or handguns. Its a great hobby that I will take to my grave. chris:D:D

Well, in the interest of safety one should probably consider flooring/joist load limits, unless one is lucky enough to have one's safe bolted down to concrete.

What this means is that, when one safe is full, put the second safe in another room... :)

I've been told that anything less than 100 is "a good start."

as many as your means allow, without interfering with the rest of your life. I love guns as much as the next guy, but when it comes down to the money, i can think of a lot of things i need first. but if you got the extra dough, then by all means.

I've always looked at buying firearms as a form of a savings account. Many of the guns I have bought have gone up four or five times the buying price, better than interest on a CD and more fun than the stock market. I've reached the point of converting a large walk-in closet to a gun vault. I'll have two safes to sell and more gun funds.

I want to own as many guns as I can shoot regularly, I think that is about 10-12. I am at 8 now and I can see myself owning three more guns before I have well and truly filled all my niches.

I've been telling myself that's a good idea for about a year now. The potential income is much better than what cd's are paying! Plus I have this nagging (possibly paranoid and unreasonable) fear that the "FDIC" is only as good as the government that's backing it. For some reason that concerns me a bit. Guess I just don't understand how the financial world works. But I don't have a single gun I'd have to sell at a loss right now.

17 guns and not a loser amongst them. I take my time before selecting the gun I want. Sometimes it takes me months to pull the trigger on a new purchase....I try to do my homework on the weapon. Now when I come across a deal... a real deal on something I've been known to buy on the spot; but that's only happened twice. All of my guns are considered multi-functional -- there are no specialists amongst them. These are your meat and potatos type guns. No special calibers:

    9mm
    .45 ACP
    .357 mag
    .22 LR
    5.56 NATO/.223 AR-15
    .270 Win
    30.06
    12 guage
    20 guage

even have (3) .177 pellet guns

If SHTF, I think common weapon calibers will have a quality all their own.

Just don't sell any. At some point you will regret it for sure. I do.

Step 1: Buy just one more.
Step 2: Return to step 1.

I'd say start with the calibers you need to own then go from there.

    For example:

    Handguns:
    22LR
    357Mag
    9MM
    45ACP

    Rifles:
    22LR
    30-30
    5.56/.223
    308
    30-06
    7.62x39

    Shotguns:
    12 Gauge

That's 11 without even trying and I missed some good ones so overall I'd say 20 guns is a good round number! Now if you need two of each caliber, well you can see where that's going!

I will own only as many as I can safely store out of the reach of my kid. Just started filling second gun cabinet.
