You know it's funny. I used to think shooting a big thumper would make you tough, macho, a real man's man (no, not THAT kind of man's man)
now in my declining years, I've finally realized that pain...well...hurts
Since you're in the gun business, I assume you know...but I'll do the .02 anyway. I shoot pretty mean loads out of a 1895 Marlin 45-70. I'd be game to take on anything in Alaska with it. The recoil is brisk but not painful. At 5'7" and maybe 170, I'd shoot 20 straight with no problem. I've had a Decelerator pad installed and it makes a ton of difference
405 Speer flat points or LSWC hard cast should do. Dunno the ranges you're talking about, but it might be an alternative
As for the worst guns...try 3 1/2" 12 gauge turkey loads
