Need some advice from you .45 ACP pros. Just bought 500 bullets from Valiant Bullet Co. (160 gr. lead SWC) sized .452. At present, haven't been able to find any info from the usual sources as to how much Bullseye can be safely used in this light a lead bullet. Many of my books from Speer, Nosler, Hornady, etc. show bullet weights of 155-160 for various powders, but believe they are strictly jacketed bullets, not LSWC.

Have always used Bullseye for my .38 wadcutters and light .40 S&W, but am only now going for my .45 ACP and want to continue using this powder as I have found it to be excellent for my needs. So if anyone has any info for what you might think a good powder weight please let me know.

BTW, I got these bullets on sale for $29.99 for 500.

None of my manuals list a 160. Lyman number 48 list 3.5 to 5.6 for the 185. "I" would load 4.0 and see if it cycles. It probably will, but I haven't used Bullseye in over 20 years.

Alliant lists 4.6g of Bullseye for a 200g LSWC, so if it were me I'd probably start there with 10 or 20 rounds, see if it cycles; work up as needed. Nothing wrong with starting lighter as EddieNFL suggests, but a powder charge for a heavier bullet is safe in a slightly lighter (but same type of) bullet.

Alliant 2002 Powder Guide lists .45 ACP:
155 lead - 6.9 grains Bullseye MAX LOAD = 1,175 FPS @ 19,400 PSI.

Reduce by 10% for a 6.2 starting load.

You can safely reduce more if desired.
As long as it will cycle the action, there is no chance of sticking a bullet in the barrel.
