RE: Project Uberlight

I needed a light Coyote Hunting unit. After packing around my RRA 24" heavy varmint unit with 6-24 scope on a couple coyote hunting trips I decided a diet was in order, and I'm not giving up Ice Cream.

Never checked the heavy gun but i'm sure it was close to 12 pounds with optics.

With a stock RRA A2 lower I built the following upper:

20" NOS original Colt retro pencil barrel
LBC No F/A upper
Clark Custom hand guard
Levang Comp -- Shaved Down (4oz reduced to 2.5oz)
A-Sight original Gas Block -- Cut Down (2.0oz final)
BCM Auto BCG

6.2 Pounds when done with NO: optics/mount/mag

I think i'm going to add a Leupold Ultralight 2-7 with light mounts and call it done at about 7 pounds with optics.

It shoots MOA with first attempt.

Yes and no. The super heavy barrel reduces my wobble zone in off hand. The rear weight balances the gun to my hold. Every ones hold is different. Mine
is balanced at the rear of the delta ring and I don’t use any extra weight in the front. That’s what works for me. A lot of guys use weight in the front too.

16" H-bar barrel turned to almost Gov profile A2 upper on a CavArms lower, 5.5 lbs gun, not much good for coyotes though.
Would like a 7.62x39 Midlength 16" instead, should weigh bout the same.

That sounds perfect for Coyotes to me! Don't use FMJ and you should have a great coyote gun.
