Any idea how much it would cost to get a custom-engraved or laser-cut AR lower?

Really depends on what you want, and where....just initials or a couple words on the mag well be 100 bucks for laser at one shop i know of.

You want more work, real engraving, etc goes up from there.

There's a local fellow who does a basic NFA-required Trust, City, State for $30. It's a side job for him so it's only available to Seattle-area locals as far as I know. I believe my local NFA manufacturer uses him as well, they charge just $125 to "manufacture" a lower, my guess is $25 of that is for engraving.

In my area I can get NFA data on one side of the mag well and a big logo on the other for about $90. It's machine engraved so it's deep enough for a paint fill if that's what you want...

Lazer engraving is priced differently depending on how many passes they need to get the depth you want ... One of the determining factors is what the base metal is. 6061 and 7075 engrave differently under a lazer.

And, most shops charge to fix up your artwork. If you go in with a clean set of line drawing files in Autocad or EPS formats it's cheaper to get it done. If you go in with a fuzzy JPG that needs to be converted and cleaned up, that will add cost. You really do not want a lazer following a fuzzy JPG because that is just what your final will look like ...

If you pick a pattern with a CNC or laser engraver, you can usually get them done incredibly cheap. Custom set ups often cost more - not surprising, they take time.

Get custom hand engraving done, and you start talking about EXTREME costs for very little work done. $100 or so to do the backstrap of a revolver, maybe $800-1500 to get full coverage on a 1911 done.

Just need to figure out what you want done, engraving, CNC engraving, or Laser etching, then call up the respective folks and get a quote.
