I just bought a beautiful 1100 for just $325 (No pics atm, sorry!) and I would like to know when was this made? It has a 21" Rifle sighted barrel and the serial number is N696997 V.

Go to www.remingtonsociety.com There is a date code on MOST barrels. This will tell you when the barrel was made. If it is original to the gun, this is pretty accurate. There was a 2-3 year period during the 90's (I think) when they did not use the date code so the system is less than perfect. If you want a more accurate date you will have to contact Remington.

just remember, barrels could be switched between guns. the serial number on the frame is more definitive of when the reciever was made.

Prefix 'N' started in 1978. 1982 at a guess. The 'V' suffix means 2-3/4" 12 gauge. Solid second generation.
