I was four when I shot my dad's Browning Light Twelve. He held the fore end. I wasn't much interested for a while after that.
Got an old J.C. Higgins bolt action 12 gauge when I was eight. An 8mm Mauser when I was 11. Uncle bought me a Llama 1911 in .38 Super when I was 17...way before anyone had heard the term 'straw purchase.'
About kindergarten era? Give or take a year.
Dad had a single shot receiver that had, both .22 rimfire & .32 rimfire barrels. He encouraged me to "start" with the .22,and after shooting at the Hi-C can(don't recall hitting it),I was too intimidated by the "big shell" to try it.
Same here Caliban, I fired my first gun out in the Mojave Desert in 2006, and now I'll probably be buying myself a .22 handgun for my 27th birthday next month.....or even earlier
18, about ten minutes after purchasing my first gun. I had always been like "I like guns. they're cool and seem interesting. Plus, it beats using a knife for self-defense."
So one day I just got it in me and bought one (a Mossberg 500 8-shot). Been into it ever since.
If airguns count, 6 or 7
First firearm I ever shot : 14, my uncle's (mom & dad were anti).22 LR semi-auto rifle.
A Winchester, if I remember correctly.
I first shot with my .22 rifle at the age of eighteen. At the time, I wanted to be an army officer and thought that proficiency in firearms would be a smart move. I wasn't born into "gun culture." My father was born in an urban environment and thus had little familiarity with guns, apart from a very brief experience with a rifle in Navy boot camp.
I would say around four or five. When we went up to Maine to visit my grandparents, my grandpa has a single shot .22 rifle, cant remeber the model of it though.
Only allowed to shoot it with my dad or my uncle around.. Then I got a bb gun (not a red ryder) then pellet rifle, then a pellet pistol.. I was 10 when I got my first rifle of my own. Then at 13, first shotgun (Mossberg 20 gauge) ..
I was about 8. Didn't really "get into" shooting hardcore till about 14 though, and ever since then it's been downhill...or uphill...I'm not sure which!
10 or 11 when I first shot a friend's bolt action .22 rifle. Didn't do much more until college, when I shot on the rifle team. Didn't own my first gun until I was 27 or 28. But I've made up for it since ...
