semi auto's, wow.

There's 2 different kinds:
1. Original closed-bolt semi autos EX: AK, ar15, ar18, fal, etc.
2. Open-bolt derived closed-bolt semi autos (These are guns that were originally open bolt but after 1982 the ATF said they were too easily converted to full auto so they had to be re-engineered to fire from a closed-bolt. EX: Uzi, Mac-10, belt fed semi autos like the M60 and RPD, all had to be re-engineered to fire from a closed-bolt instead of the original open-bolt design.)

Wow, it's 3:09am, I got to go to work at 10:00am! I need sleep. Someone else answer how they work.

Don't make me have to correct you.:neener: ;)

there are some cutaway type videos out there on the net, that show you exactly what takes place, but i would not know where to direct you to.
there are a few diff ways the actually work, like blow back, piston driven, gas impenge, etc., but basically they all work on the expanding gases from a cartridge.

my thesis..

i'm now in final year
study in degree of mechanical design&innovation
so need to design something new about assault rifle for my country army
there is some criterias that i need to fillful. the rifle must
1. for south east asia people
2. shorter than current M-16 but better than M-4 carbine
3. egronomic
4. lighter
5. low cost manufacturing
so i need help as there are limited of sources..
that is why i joint this forum..:)

the only way you're going to meet those criteria is if you interpret "better" to mean "cheaper"

take a kel tec su-16c

torture test until it breaks

fix what you dont like

there you go

short, light, clean firing, uses m-16 magazines, readily available ammo, ergonomic, cheap, more accurate than AK style weapons
