How to modify a "gunbusters" sign?

We've all seen 'em... What I'm thinking about is a small thing that can be printed, either on label paper, or on regular paper that you can tape over the original, that will include the "gunbusters" logo, and something to make the viewers THINK. The object is not to scare them - it's to make them convince THEMSELVES (the most "sticking" way...) that the "gunbusters" concept is bad.

I'm thinking of including the text "Police are only 10 minutes away" underneath.

Any other suggestions? Please no "easy victim zone" stuff - Object is to make people think, not to scare them.
 
just put a "no rape" or "no murder" busters sign next to it, implying anyone who would disobey one, would disobey the other
 
Yeah, even though I drive around and see little "fatherlessness", "homelessness" and "violence" stickers affixed below the STOP on stopsigns, even taping a poster on one is a likely a bad idea.

Instead, how about a T-Shirt with the typical "no gun, red circle w/ slash" silhouette, underneath it says "No guns allowed within * feet"

??

You think the irony would register in people's brains?
 
Don't deface others' signage. It's vandalism, immature, and reflects badly on our cause.

I like the notion of adding the words, "No Murders Allowed on These Premises."

Keep it simple, and keep in mind that using words like "murder" tends to scare folks... I'd rather have them thinking "You mean it takes the cops 10 minutes to get here? Maybe they oughta have someone armed inside" than have them going "Murder? There could be a murder? That's not good. Good thing they don't let guns in."
 
well bogie, if you want people thinking "it takes the cops 10 minutes to get here", then how about a sign saying "it takes the cops 10 minutes to get here"

Maybe if you try rubbing them together.

Picture a convenience store clerk noticing one of the signs, and going "What? You mean it's gonna take the cops 10 minutes to get here? How long is it gonna take to get robbed?" And then having a little chat with her boss...

Make 'em think that THEY are the ones who come up with the idea that maybe more legal guns equal less crime. Because the more _we_ yell about it, the more we get ignored.
 
Fine, then make it "No Robberies Allowed."

I don't think 10 minutes sounds like a lot of time, to most people. I personally wouldn't blink twice.

If...

I was going to do something like this:

First, I would not deface any existing sign for the same reasons a few cooler heads have already pointed out.

Secondly, I would word the message as well as possible to make people think rather than just react.

Third, I would put it on a sign which is at least as professional as, and hopefully better than the property owner's sign and place it as neatly as possible so as to not cause any damage.

That's what I would do if I was going to try this. Make sure my response comes across in as responsible a manner considering the circumstances.
 
best one I seen on Sashabaw road, before Maybee road in Clarkston, Michigan is "STOP" and the words "eating meat" right below it. Yes the left does it. I have NEVER seen a conservative-done stop sign ever.

Surely Oleg has a good idea?
 
If I were to make a sign I would get a picture of a bunch of big mean burly chested convicts all behind bars in a cell block all with their hands holding the bars and a pissed look on there faces.
Under it I would put a caption like what laws do you think are going to stop us once we are released?

We like gun free zones they give us plenty of time.:evil:
I would never support vandalism but what if you could rent or borrow space close by or opposite and post your sign?
 
It's not vandalism. It's not replacing. It's not permanently altering.

Just don't use permanent stuff. Jeeze, what is it with gun people and "all or nothing" anyway?

Nothing is more powerful than a conclusion which someone arrives at themselves, without being told what to think. Now, if you led them toward it, and they don't understand that you led them toward it, it is JUST as powerful...

We're going up against a constant mass-media repetition of "guns are bad." Fun thing is, people want to think. And they're not so far removed from the last couple of generations. If we can get them thinking "hey, I was safer before that other sign went up!" that is a good thing.

When Va Tech happened, it wasn't just us asking the "why did it happen?" questions. Granted, us gun people already knew the answer. But a lot of other _fence sitting_ folks out there suddenly started leaning a LOT more toward the "I wanna be able to protect myself" side.

And if you think that scotch-taping something over a few sides is a hanging offense, I guess you'll just have to completely freak out when I suggest the next idea...
 
There's a sign in downtown Cleveland somewhere that says STOP "putting crap on our signs" :D

Also, I don't think there's much wrong with something discreet and nonpermanent.
 
How about copying the size and style of the anti sign with the "new and improved" logo and posting the "new and improved" signs on community/neighborhood bulletin boards or other legal places to post. The idea being to have the other signs look as silly as they are when people see them. That way no vandalism.

I would put "Criminals Prefer" over a no-guns sign. Or, "Easier for Criminals" at the bottom.

"Criminals Prefer" above or next to a "No Guns Allowed" sign would make people think.
 
another second for Jamz' idea. It accomplishes a bunch of things:

1) The message is clear
2) You're not even distorting the sign or putting anything over it
3) Despite #2 - adding those words entirely changes the sign's message.

It's perfect IMO.
