pocket clip knife wont work with me as i have been carry it off and on sence i was 10. But hopefully i will get my ccw within a few months then it will.

In Maryland, we have to worry about who's carrying concealed because most likely they DON'T have a permit. :banghead:

Recently, while waiting for my wife outside the A.C. Moore in Hanover, PA, I did notice a guy wearing a "5-11" tactical/photographer vest. I thought it was a bit strange considering the heat wave we were experiencing. The breeze caught it a little and I got a glimpse of a 1911 on his right side. Since then I play a mental "who's carrying" game when I'm in PA.

Matt

About people scanning, being aware of their surroundings, and sitting with their backs to the wall, I do that all the time, and I almost never carry. I learned these habits from karate. Someone practicing situational awareness is just being smart, not necessarily carrying.

I have seen a lot of people print where I live, mostly "urban youths." I used to think they were all carrying until I saw one of them reach into his pants and pull out an airsoft pistol!

Be aware of your surrounding, but make no assumptions.

A wilderness tactical instructor's belt is a dead giveaway. Royal Robbins pants are too to a lesser extent.

I also think one of those pocketknives with the clip for the end of the pocket gives the impression of gun owner, at least. Not sure about CCW though.

I agree.

I looked back in--I think--such a way as to let him know I knew he knew what I was doing, and took a seat with my back against another wall from which I too could see the entrance as well as him.

But did he then look back in a way as to let you know that he knew that you knew that he knew that you knew what you were doing? Because that's the vital part!

I like to look for other CCW people because I think it helps me hide mine better. It's also fun to make someone and point it out to my wife as if to say, "See, it's a good thing I'm carrying" or "I may need a better carry gun."

As for clip pocket knives, I keep mine at the bottom of my weak hand pocket. I don't want to let anyone know I'm carrying that for the same reason I don't want them to know I have a gun. I want the element of surprise. I think wearing it clipped in plain sight is only asking for trouble. The possible exception might be if you were on a job that required you to use the knife a lot and keep it handy, but even then I'm not so sure

The person who picks up a bottle of Windex with their index finger in register along the nozzle instead of on the trigger, or the person at the gas station who lays their finger alongside the pump handle when picking it up...

Man wearing fanny pack, even though he's wearing pants or shorts that have pockets. +1 for Cordura nylon pack, +2 if black, +3 if it's the size of a small carryon suitcase.

Someone wearing a sport coat over a polo shirt or T-shirt at the grocery store.

A couple of years back I went to a function for ex CIA and FBI agents.

I got there early to play the where are they carrying game.

Out of the 150+ that walked by me, I made 2.

I'm going to go out on a limb and ASSUME that more than 2 were carrying. (Sarcasm)

I was impressed.

The two?
1. Wind blew open coat.
2. Coat was a TAD too tight, saw the butt from the shoulder holster imprint on the way by.

I work in corrections, and am not a police officer, but I always* carry my Sig with me.
A dead giveaway is when your cop friends are with you and pat you on the side to see if you are packing.
I try to only check my rig in public when in between aisles at the store, discretely when entering and exiting my vehicle, etc. I second the riggers belt comment. I carry mine on a Galco (iirc) rigger type belt right side in a leather slide holster.
Typical dress is jeans or slacks with an untucked polo. If you are one of us it should not be hard to spot. Most people have no clue, even when I find I am printing.

*Anytime I am not out at the local watering holes or other places prohibited by local, state, and federal laws. On duty we can carry, but not off. Odd, isn't it?

while I am against wearing extremely obvious cloths like shirts that say NRA, Colt, etc, I must say I am intrigued by the idea of wearing items that only fellow gunners would recongnize, almost a secret code amongst us, Things like the triangle with two stick arms (old hobo sign for 'armed man lives here) on a shirt, molon labe gear, less well known gun brand shirts, etc. Browning makes some very sedate hats that unless you already knew browning did guns you'd never figure it out.

Was checking into an airport hotel behind a very obvious Fed Air Marshal (thick rubber soled shoes, slightly badly dressed, age, build). The desk clerk asked for something and he bent down to his suitcase revealing a couple of inches of holster to the rest of the queue.

Vests,Hiawaian Shirts, etc are a good giveaway. I mean Who would wear an Hiawaiam unless they we're hiding something? The only folks with a fanny pack that I assume aren't carrieng beter be wearing spandex and are riding a bicycle....Essex

Stolen from another site: Someone who keeps their finger indexed, when they pick up a Windex bottle...
