It sure does. I had my hands on a couple of those $5 boxes of ammo just today, and had to tell myself to "just stop" LOL They are addicting!

HC you're welcome. It's been a fun journey. I'm off to the 6.5 Grendel now - the closest thing I could find to my "7x39" idea without selling a kidney to get it. ;)

Yeah, I could definitely foresee a 6.5 Grendel in my future (or a .243) if the right deal on a CZ American 6.5 Grendel, or a Tikka .243 came my way.

Just got the Boyds Pro Varmint stock today. Like the stock, just looks odd being a full length stock on a mini action. Gonna cut 5" off the forend. Otherwise like the weight, balance and fit.

Initial trip with new stock was unimpressive. Threw the action onto the stock, mounted a scope using a cheap set of rings. Good set I bought needs to be exchanged for a high set and headed to the range. Shot right a 2", 100yds, 5 shots. Time to modify the stock, bed it, remount the scope, get reloading dies...

Ford8n, sorry to hear about the performance, although 2" at 100 yards without any work to the stock seems pretty decent, what ammo were you using? I am guessing there is a lot of mileage in a light bedding job. The fit on my stock was very loose, and when tightened down, the action wanted to move sideways to where the barrel was almost touching one side of the barrel channel. On a rest, there would have been a very good chance of contact between the stock and barrel. I lightly bedded the recoil lug and tang, and have a very solid fit now with plenty of barrel clearance. I never shot it before the bedding, so I don't know how much it helped, but I am pretty sure it can't have hurt.

I also had to router the inletting for the bottom "metal" a bit more to get the magazine up to the action for consistent feeding. That seems to have it feeding consistently with dummy rounds, but I haven't had a chance to give it a good test yet.

Bottom line, these Boyds stocks are often not a "bolt on" affair, and may need some work to get running right. I cut the forend down about 1.5" to just shy of the channel routed into the stock under the barrel. That made the forend much more proportional to the 20" barrel.

I cut about 3" off the stock forend this past weekend and started reshaping the pistol grip / palm swelll area - way to thick and high. I measured the recoil lug .947 x .395, lug inlet measures 1.090 x .500. Picked up piller materal and will do a light bedding. It'll be s project ...
Ammo was Fiocchi

On the up side I took my .223 Howa mini out to try some IMI 69 gr Match King ammo

Just found an online company that has pillar material CHEAP. Just ordered 2 sizes for $1.25 each with free shipping.
Widgetco.com

I cracked a plastics trigger guard on my Savage, the plastics trigger guard/mag housing bottom "metal" on my Howa Mini is a concern as well. CDIP has an aftermarket aluminum one but not cheap. Anyone try to "reinforce" the plastics bottom metal at the action screw holes?

I'm hoping a 3/8 or 1/2" diameter aluminum piller with the correct size ID hole will give the plastic a good solid flat base to lay against.
