• Possible Downtime Alert

I am working to migrate THR from the current cluster to a new one. I would like to get this done before the weekend, but it's unclear what the timeframe will be, as testing is still ongoing. As I am writing this the new (rebuilt) host is doing a burn-in to ensure that everything will keep running under load.

When the migration happens users will see a Cloudflare message indicatating it cannot connect to the server. This is expected, and depending on how the migration goes this may last from 30 minutes to 3 hours - I won't know more until testing the various migration options is complete and I have finalized the plan.

More information is available in this thread.

As always, thanks so much for your patience.

I'm not sure if the 5R Rifling will help with a bit of FPS. I herd is a tiny bit faster than regular.

Not enough to be meaningful. Some 5R barrels will be slower than conventional 4 or 6 groove rifling.

Polygonal rifling has been unilaterally faster for me for a given barrel length, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to buy poly rifled barrels just for that reason.

I would go with a 16" barrel if it was to be an "all purpose" rifle. I went with a 14.5" and P/W'd the flash hider on one to make 16" to be as handy as possible in the woods. The velocity gains from 16" to 20" aren't worth the squeeze due to heavier weight and being less handy. JMHO

Ohh totally understand your point, if I didn't had one I would have probably gotten a 16" for general purpose, however my 11.5 fill that role, I can hunt with it but I have to keep it somewhat closer range. The idea was to get a "hunting" upper in 556/223 and the 18" was recommended.

Yeah I can mow my 5 acres of grass with a 20 inch push mower or I can break out the tractor and brush hog and make it a much more enjoyable plus quick and efficient job

The point here is yes you can kill a deer with a
22 cal but is that the best option? Especially if you’re just starting out? The 6 Arc 6.5 Grendel 6.8 spc 350 legend 338 arc 450 bushmaster 458 socom are all much better choices imo that fit into an AR Platform

So Why Are you sticking with the 223? I think you will struggle very much unless shot placement is perfect and is that what you want as a new hunter? Me personally I want 2 holes let’s air in and blood out makes for a better blood trail which helps you find said deer so again I can’t help but ask why 223?

I had more than 20 rifles for hunting training and long range you name it from 22lr to 7mm Rem Mag. Unfortunately due to an inside job where they were stored they got stolen alone with ammo gear, reloading tools everything but some scared parts, the case in under investigation as we speak, but that takes time. So basically I have to start from zero. Not only for hunting but everything else. So I had enough parts to get a 11.5 going, therefore I'm starting with 556/223 for now, then move up to

6.5cm/308 for the utility
300WM/7mm PRC for big game/long range,
with a 22lr, 7.62x39 and a 7mm Rem Mag somewhere there :)

Ahhh I see I’m sorry for your loss I can’t stand a thief :fire::fire::fire::fire::fire:

Well now that I understand your situation more clearly I say bravo sir and I’d try to run a bonded bullet or a mono yeah they maybe a tad lighter but they are meant to hold together and pass through which is a great thing

Looks good, but wondering why you put that noise-maker on the muzzle?!?
Mainly because it was in the box and I wanted to see how it looked. Honestly I don't think it's going to stay on this build, it adds 2 inches to the OAL and the weight doesn't justify it's utility on this hunting AR. I do have another compensator by KAL that works wonderful as a flash suppressor it's about the size of a regular A2 flash hider and it weights far less.
