I've eaten dog...here in the United States and knowingly. It was similar to eating some cuts of pork.

Used to eat horse relatively often, but it became illegal to sell horse meat here in the U.S. a few years back so that pleasure is now forgone. It is a nice meat, leaner than beef and with a slightly different taste.

Raw beef, raw fish, roe of many different varities. Dried squid. Cooked squid, cooked octopus. More kinds of fish than I can recall really. Almost forgot raw sea urchin, fresh from tidepools, cracked open with a screwdriver and then dressed with a squeeze of lemon. You just suck down the black, tarry looking contents.

Frogs, eels, 'gator, yup, of course.

Squirrels a plenty, moose, caribou, bear, elk, venison, rabbit, pheasant, duck, goose, turkey, all wild game, not store bought.

Ate sparrows in Spain from street vendors. Goat in Mexico, plus lengua (tongue) here and there. My dad ate cat, camel, and donkey during WWII, so I suppose that counts as a known experience.

The really funny thing is that I was a vegetarian for quite a few years! :D
 
Nobody mentioned groundhog or did I miss it. I used to make a groundhog stew and even got the recipe published.
 
Eels and raw fish, fish eggs, goose liver just means ya live in California and make a bit over minimum wage, everyone's had the odd experiment and had sushi.

Goose liver fully deserves all the hype, it's heavenly.

I only recently tried frogs' legs, they're good. Like fishy chicken. Good if you like fish. And chicken.

I need to start trying some of the birds around here, I've read someone describing crow they tried as "like duck but more tender" which sounds pretty good. And we've got to cull some of the geese and roosters around here. Plus it seems the local doves are an invasive species....
 
I had whale sashimi in Japan. It's a dark red meat that looks like the red parts of tuna.(which is how they tricked me into trying it) I don't remember the taste being that special tho.
Offered but not eaten: boiled silkworms in Thailand, live insects in Mexico, grasshopper and rat in Africa.
 
I saw turtle mentioned several times.. If you were a Florida boy you would know that softshelled turtle is called "cooter" and can be quite good. Another good one is beefalo. Some farmers in Nebraska actually crossed the two and it was really good. They actually had steaks in the corner store for a while. Idea was to get an animal that could survive the West Nebraska winters outdoors and still produce tender meat faster that the typical buff could.. the other reason was because the buffalo had a nasty habit of putting their head down and pushing through about any fence when they decided to move. The cross seemed to loose some of the cantankerous attitude.
 
I have the belief that if you shoot it, you eat it. Therefore I have eaten a varied amount of critters: skunk, oppossum, bobcat, copperhead, frog legs, gator tail, snapping turtle, breast of woodpecker, grasshopper, cricket, meal worm, I didn't really shoot some of these things. I believe the best of all was oppossum. One night on the way home I had to swerve to miss hitting one, but saw that the oncoming car hit it. Turned around, stomped it out of its missery, took it home skinned it out, encluding the fat, and put it in the crock pot. Got up the next morning, boned the meat, put barbecue sauce in with it and took it to work, along with a loaf of bread. Co-workers ate it up. After friends told them what it was, one gal argued that she had had opposum, and that what I had brought was beef. Another person turned green, went to the bathroom and thru up. He then went home. Another time I brought barbequed copperhead cut in little pieces with toothpicks sticking up. Forgot the time I ate an old crow. He had great flavor, but was sure tough.
 
I have eaten:

Turtle
Monkey
Ostrich
Elk
Deer
Duck
Iguana
Snake
Boar
Water Buffalo

and they all tasted like chicken.
 
Lynx was good, even after they told me what I had eaten...LOL!!!

Heck, if it walks, crawls, flys, swims , borrows underground or grows tward the sun , Ill give it a try :D
 
A buddy of mine recently had the opportunity to try a humpback whale that washed up on the beach in Mozambique. It was 'prepared' by the locals, his description was priceless: 'Humpback tastes like a cross between hardhead catfish, and pencil erasers'

sounds like eating ROAD KILL, who knows how long that thing was dead and what it died from:barf:
 
I should be allowed to vote again. A couple days ago, it was my wife's birthday, and I took her to the restaurant of her choice. While there, I had a chance to sample a couple different types of wild boar, but the most interesting item was some sausage made from rattlesnake. I have to say that it was my favorite, just behind the beef tenderloin of course.

hmmm yummy. just think of something while shoving those foods inside your throat

I didn't like frog legs either.

Grandma wouldn't allow Raccoon or Possum in her kitchen. I figured if she wouldn't cook it I wouldn't eat it. I watched her fix sausage and "grits". Grandma's grits weren't corn - they were about anything edible you could get from a pigs head mixed with lard and oats.
 
Does BBQ eel count? Not actually sure it was BBQ'd, but it had BBQ sauce on it. We were at a sushi place and I was trying to order beef teriyaki, but my (India Indian) wife kept elbowing me in the gut, her grandfather was there and he didn't/doesn't eat beef...so my FIL ordered for everyone, so I got BBQ eel which is better than Dahl.... yuck!
 
Kangaroo, tastes like venison, but dry.
Crocodile. Tastes like chicken.

In the seafood area, not weird to me, but may be to others:
Squid, Octopus, swordfish, shark, scampi, oysters, muscles, crab, fresh water & saltwater crayfish, shovelnose lobster. Pretty much if it lives in the sea, isn't attached to a rock and doesn't squish between the toes when I stand on it then I'm willing to eat it. :)
