I confess -- I'm a Kel-Tec fan....

Roky, don't know why you have so many failures. First, I would try some different mags and different brands of ammo. If still having trouble, I would ship back to the mother ship. There are a number of little things that might need adjusting, and KT has good customer service.

P-3AT, P11, and another P11 converted to 40 S&W. I lose patience with people who dog Kel-Tec just because they heard / read negative things about these little cannons. If you have one, and you're not satisfied with it, I can understand that, too.

All mfgs will eventually put something out the door that should have never seen the light of day. With KT's warranty, and a little bit of research, any of their offerings can be made reliable (at least for me).

Not happy with yours? PM me!

I think Kel-Tec is in some trouble... a new kid is on the block that's almost identical but promises to be much better made and has features that I really like (slide lock).

According to reports elsewhere (I can't claim they're accurate) Ruger has already sold (have orders for) 87,000 of these and they were just announced. I'm one of those waiting for the LCP as my experience with Kel-Tec has been pretty bad.

Hopefully the LCP lives up to the hype and the reputation of Ruger.

Have a P11 that is pretty much my EDC.
Had a .32 and .380, would buy a .32 again. Not sure about the .380
I guess once people start dumping their KTs for the Ruger I can pick a few more at a discount.

Yeah, my .380 was a complete hunk of junk. I sold it to a buddy who insisted he could get it working reliably. He sold it several months later. I tried again the following year and had the same results with another new P3AT... it was unreliable. It was better than the first one, but it would hiccup several times every box of 50 rounds of factory ball ammo fired. I wasn't going to try a 3rd time.

The announcement of the LCP got me really excited. I've desperately wanted a small pocket pistol and had high hopes for the P3AT. Now that a well known, respected gun maker with a reputation for quality is in the game with a pistol very similar to the P3AT I couldn't be happier.

I hear the .32's in Kel Tec's line are more reliable than the P3AT's. I just don't want to go smaller than .380. That, and the quality of manufacture and the quality of materials used in the Kel-Tec's are poor. That's always been something I've been concerned with.

I have had a Sub2000 in 9MM for several years now and it shoots great. I bought it for the kids, but I like it too. Very easy to shoot well. Funny looking sights that just plain work well.

I had a SS Sub2000 in .40 but sold it. The kids did not like the recoil and it was not cheap to plink with like the 9MM, but it shot fine too.

+1 on Sturmgewehr's post. I got my hands on the LCP at SHOT and I *will* be purchasing a couple of them. BTW, they did sell approximately that many at the show...they had to call the factory after the first day and give orders to ramp up production...seems it surprised them how many they sold.

Going to give kel-tec some SERIOUS competition, at least versus the P3AT.

I have two SU-16's and they are great little rifles to have. So light it's almost unbelievable and very accurate for what you pay. Have had the P32 and P11 over time, but couldn't get past the trigger pull to feel comfortable with them. Both were reliable.

I predict it will eventually be the death toll for the P3AT. With a price difference of around $5 (Ruger being more expensive) I can't imagine someone buying the Kel-Tec over the Ruger if they are sitting side by side on a self.

Kel-Tec either needs to improve their product line or face the certain death of their mini-pistol line. They will still have their larger 9mm's which will appeal to some people though.

Has anyone heard of Keltec coming out with a .22?

Also the 12rd mags seem an awful lot like the old .40 mags. My uncle had 6 mags after he got rid of his Keltec .40 for exploding and discovered the mags fed 12 rds of 9mm reliably.

Kel-Tec will be shipping .22 LR versions of the SU-16 and PLR-16 (SU-22, PLR-22) sometime in the next couple of months.

My P3AT is always with me. It's with me now.
I've put many hundreds of rounds through it, not one hiccup with any FMJ ammo I've run through it. And luckily, it really likes Remington 88-grain JHP's from WallyWorld...they've been flawless for me.
The Ruger looks nice, but I already own a reliable Kel-Tec. I like my Ruger guns also, but I have no need for yet another .380 pocket gun (got too many now).

From what I've seen Kel-Tecs are decent enough guns. I can't help thinking that those are some very ugly firearms though.

My 11 round (10 round mag and one in the pipe) has been my primary carry weapon for 5+ years now.

I'm planning on buying a Sub 2000 (9mm) and the new PLR-22 when it comes out.

I guess I like 'em:
2 P3AT's, 2 P32's, 1 P-11, 1 P-40, I Sub2k in 9mm, 1 SU-16a.

I never shoot the 40 or P-11 (need to find a new homes, I guess). Trigger on P11 sucks for my taste, and I guess I'm just not man enough for the P40 (though I shoot 40 in all my primary guns).

Most of these came in one package purchase a couple years ago; I dunno if I'd own all these if that were not the case.

I feel as though Kel-Tec is the most innovative of the manufacturers out there. While the old standbys like S&W and such are important, you need some folks out there pushing the limits, too. The PLR-16, Sub-2000, SU-16, and P-3AT are all groundbreaking and unparalleled.

I'm 3 for 3 on liking the Kel-Tec's I have bought. A P-11 (still have,) a P-32, which I traded in for a P-3AT (which is my EDC.)

None have given me trouble.

FWIW, one of my favorite shooting moments came when the P-11 was relatively new. Was shooting out in the desert. Found a discarded real estate sign. The 2'X3' metal kind. Set it up, marched off 100 paces, and shot at it with the P-11. Bang. Ting. I'll be danged. Went through the magazine, and hit it 8 for 10. Probably could've gone 10 for 10, if the trigger on the P-11 was any better.

Pink carpet.

Now that I got that out of the way. I have a P11 that is in the drawer next to me here in my office. Gotta get a P3AT for the wife once I convince her that she needs to carry it. Will definitely continue the collection.

Mtn. Valley -- new home for the P11? ;)

"I never shoot the 40 or P-11 (need to find a new homes, I guess). Trigger on P11 sucks for my taste, and I guess I'm just not man enough for the P40 (though I shoot 40 in all my primary guns)."

If you should decide to find a new home by means of sale-through-FFL, let me know ;)

I wonder why I don't see more P11s used, actually -- maybe because with the required fees in many states (or going interstate via FFL), the overhead costs of mailing and fees adds enough to the would-be cost that it's only worth buying new. Shame!

I've had 4 KT's, a P32, P11, P40 and P3AT. All of them are gone now. The P11 had a tendency to let some springs pop loose if you squeezed it wrong, the P40 was an interesting little pocket rocket, but only reliable with FMJ's or Corbon PowRballs, the P3AT couldn't get through a single mag of FMJ's without a failure of some kind, even after a break in, a F&B and one trip back to the factory. The P32 was fine, my SO has it now.

I've spent more time, money and effort trying to get KT's working than any other manufacturers guns I've owned. I like the PF9, but my experience tells me that probably only 1 out of every 4 will work right without some work, and I'm not that lucky or that interested in wasting my time and money trying to prove another low cost pistol.

At this point, I wouldn't buy another KT product unless it came with 200 rounds of break in ammo, a coupon for a free F&B and was guaranteed to function properly with at least one brand of premium defense ammo or I'd get my money refunded.

Sorry, but my time's valuable enough that I don't want to waste it saving $100. KT should raise the quality of their parts and make sure each gun functions out of the box before it leaves their factory. I'd willing pay an extra $100 for that.

But I expect it's too late for that, other companies have seen the market and are filling it now. Ruger has the LCP for about $100 more than a P3AT and Taurus is coming out with the PT709 Slim which will be about $100 more than a PF9.

Oh, and for you KT Kool-Aid drinkers. Let me head you off at the pass. Sure, it was all limp wristing, that's why my KT's didn't work right.

I feel your pain. I picked up a P32 a while back, fell in love with it, and waiting to buy another. I love the KT Sub's, I want one in a Glock 9mm.
