I did a bad, bad thing...

Well, since you did that, might as well take the next step. Thread it and screw a can on!

I see nothing wrong with scoped lever guns. That said, I wouldn't drill & tap one. But Marlins are pretty well all drilled & tapped for mounts from factory, and that's the only brand of lever rifles I own.

I have to admit, I do have a desire for a scoped and threaded lever in 45-70.

Your Marlin looks great, and if it helps you use it more effectively then who's to give you grief.

Both rifles gone.
The Lightfoot no drill mount for the '35 EG worked great, but added weight and threw the feel off.
If I ever get another 99 it will be a factory drilled featherweight.
And that is the only lever gun I'd be interested in.
Had a few 9422M, 94's and that Marlin .44 mag the ol lady posed with.

I kill deer. And if I'm not sure of the 1st shot, whap em again. Check in guys used to give me some ribbing over multiple good hits.
Told them it arrived in my truck didn't it?
Heard too many single shot purists that have lost deer.

I do like single shots, Ruger #1's. Grew up hunting with one. They work, and are pretty.
Never fell for the hype of being a "serious rifle" due to being a single shot.
Geeesh, if I take my 700 w 4 rounds in the mag and dump my critter with one shot...............what difference does it make?

I don't rely on followup shots. But do think they can save the day. Just insurance. Don't plan on using it, but nice to have.

You know, the Savage 99 is the only lever gun that looks absolutely right with a scope. The design was so far ahead of its time and sufficiently modern that scopes look natural on them.

Not just the savage. Cant forget the sako. I also have browning that I got fairly cheap with a short shotgun scope on it. It looks ok i guess.

That looks fine and it's period correct. If any one gives you any BS about it just say, " What scope?? Oh thats my new carry handle".:D

So I'm sitting in a blind on private property many years ago when some trespassing clown comes strolling by......carrying his 336 by you guessed it....his fancy expensive carry handle that looked a lot like a scope to me. When I called to him from about 5 yards away he was so startled he dang near dropped the rifle but his glove was stuck between the scope and receiver.

LRDGCO.........Welcome to old age; or at least older than you once were. The older you get, the more you appreciate optics. I have no problem with scoping a lever gun, my Marlin has a 1-4x Leupold with a 20mm objective mounted low and to my eye, looks good. The scopes that look wrong to me on levers are bigger and have large objective ( front) lenses, aka "overscoping" a gun. Your setup looks OK to me except it could be a bit lower and a hammer extension could be put on if it's real close to the rear end of the scope. Also assuming your Texan is in .30-30 ( aren't they all? ) and if so, anything above 3 or 4 power is frivolous and unneeded on a .30-30 and also falls into the "overscoping" category. So other than, IMHO, the mounting height, it looks great and most guys over the age of 50 would probably agree.

I used an ATV instead of walking a mile to my hunting spot last fall because I could not walk that far due to a physical injury. I can understand the scope on a rifle. I have been testing different .22 LR ammo with a new rifle recently. I can appreciate a scope on a rifle. I bought a Winchester 94 last fall. I hope I can kill a deer with it before I need a scope on all my hunting rifles, because if I don't, I won't have killed a deer with that rifle; luckily, others are scoped. I wish you some good hunting for many years with your scoped lever rifle. The scope only adds capability to your rifle, it doesn't diminish you in any way. Enjoy the ride while it lasts. When you hunt, you are alive!

I have one scoped lever, two peep-sighted levers and the rest are probably awaiting peeps as my eyes age as well.

Nuthin’ wrong with the look of that Marlin at all!

Stay safe!

Hookeye post #30 I had to go back 3 times and look at your first picture before I noticed there was a gun in there. What a pretty cat. I love cats and wish I could have one. But my allergies and my wife forbid the venture. I can buy all the guns I want but cats are not allowed.:neener:

As for the scope on a lever action I have no problem with it. You can only shoot as well as you can see. And I have a couple of Marlins that shoot like target guns with a scope. I could never shoot them to there full potential with open sights. My favorite scopes for levers are the 2x7 power scopes. Those seem to be just about right for the rounds they shoot. Of course guns like the Savage 99, Henry long Ranger a BLR are the exception to that rule.

Thanks. That cat was a sweetheart.
Was good up til last deer season, about 18yrs old......took a turn.
Spent a good chunk trying to save her.
Didn't work.

Kinda honked at the vets holding my ol lady emotional hostage.
Bill ended up triple what they thought.
I knew it was bad before it really showed, didn't want to upset the lil woman.
She took her to vet while I was up in a treestand, so was screwed on that one.

Got a rescue kitten after Xmas.
Freakin' orange terror she is! LOL

It sucks losing a pet, they become part of the family.
But they are ANIMALS that are part of the family, not people.
Think some vets take advantage of those who forget that.
Never again.

Picture kitty caught a mouse and a shrew about 2yrs ago.
First cold snap of fall.
