Yep, I plunked down the funds on a good quality flintlock kit.

I ordered a Canoe Gun from North Star West. I can't wait!!

I have been intrigued with building a muzzle loading gun for a LONG time. Lately I have been reading catalogs, books and magazines. I have also been watching DVD's on building these guns. I finally took the plunge.

I like the idea of a cut down Trade gun. I got mine in 20ga. Will let you know how it turns out!!

what kind of flint?i gotta Kentucky flint w/33.5 in, 1:66 barrel. built it from a kit. put a lot of work into it and am very proud of it.i would shoot it more but it left terrible bruises on my cheek. if i did shoot it again i would definatly want real bp for good reliable ignition and accurate shooting, and would stick to 6og and rb, not 115 and a 360g minie lol

There's something about smoothbores that are just plain appealing.

I've heard about the canoe gun but forgot about what its configuration actually was.
I'm also impressed with the practical size of the blanket gun and buffalo runner models.
Not very much different than a home defense gun by today's standards, and the serious punch that they could handily deliver in a time of need back in the day.
The quality of their products also seems to be outstanding.
Please be sure to let us how how it shoots once it's all assembled. :)

gauge refered to how many bore sized rb that you could make out of a lb of lead... so if you shot rb out of it, it would be like a 350 grain BALL. thats pretty huge considering i have to have an 1.25 inch long minie to equal the same weight:eek:

The bore is .62"!! It shoots patched .60 cal balls! That is a BIG hole!

Add in the ability to shoot shot and this should be a VERY handy little carbine!

I feel that this is only the beginning!! :)

how heavy is the gun do you know? kind of charge/velocity? i have a book around here, that using those #'s you can figure the recoil energy. its nothing important to know anymore than "it kicks like a mule" but sometimes its fun to just be amazed at some crazy hard hitting numbers lol:eek:

Congratulations

You have the BEST trade gun kit made. They are authentic (if properly finished) and very versitile. You can shoot ball or shot (or both). The octagon to round barrel is beautiful. There is a lot of information out there on these guns so good luck.

Don't know about you guys. Drooling over the gun as opposed to the gal at the North Star West website!

The Doc is out now, and going back to that website. ;)
