I Don't fully "get it"

I haven’t cared for any of the 3 AR’s I’ve owned, the Mosins I’ve shot and owned never got any love. The Ruger M77 is another one I want to like and my Savage 110 was basically free so I’d love to love it but, nah.

I think that’s about it. The list of ones I like is longer, thankfully.

One big disappointment was a Kimber 84M Hunter. I found one in 257 Roberts and was tickled pink at my find. Stuck a 3-9X Leupold XXII on it and thought that I had the perfect whitetail gun. It weighed less than 7# loaded and had a nice trigger. I tried 4 powders and 3 different bullets and never got a three shot group under 1 1/2". That doesn't get it at my house. Another thing that surprised me was the recoil. I have shot a 300 WSM in a Savage Model 10 that weighs 6 3/4# stripped for 10 years. Add a scope and mount, plus shells an it is around 8#. That Kimber slapped me harder than my Savage. I could have lived with the recoil, but it would have to shoot better than the Savage for me to keep it. I have a target that has five 3 shot groups on it from the 300. The smallest is .366 and the largest is .778. Mr Kimber didn't come close.

Yes.

Could not effectively use the standard iron sights on the very nice Yugo Mauser.
Even if combat rifles had not been designed to shoot high at 50 and 100 (+) yards., the design of the front post just didn't "grow" on me.

Obturation: the only reason I didn't like my (16") S&W "AR" very much was because the sight distance, paired with my > undeveloped skills< , doesn't seem to compare with the standard iron sights on my friend's 20" Colt (Green Box) AR from 1985.
And its standard length feel + looks, plus the carry handle and the Colt name seem hard to equal among the AR type.

He would never sell it, but if I had $2,000 to spare I would drop the cash in his lap and watch his response (with my wife's "clearance to proceed direct to the fix").
Ironic for a guy who left Essen Germany when he was about 22 years old..
