I just got my first delay on buying some guns today. Normaly they say prossed right away, but not today. In the 70+ guns that I have bought this is the first time happened (Feel like your in bed with a girl and saying "this is the first time this has ever happend"). It just feels weird, it starts you to think did I do something wrong? I almost bought a C&R gun just so that I wouldn't feel so bad and I could take it home without doing the stupid background check. But o well I thought I'd share with the group

Happened to me my very first time I used my permit. I had to go back to the place like three hours later because it took a while to got thru. The whole time I was sweatin' it.

I had to get finger printed for the job. now, every time i buy a heater i get delayed. State law enforcement and i cant get clear because they hit my fingerprint card and think i have a record. ANY hit and it's time to wait and wait.

Ah, dude... You're in GA, right? Your card is a Get Out of NICS Free card here. If they ran you anyway then they're screwed up.

... or were you buying out of state from a dealer?

Yeah, as a matter of fact, I'm waiting on their OK right now.

It really does make you feel dirty.

I was talking to a training officer at the AZ Dept of Public Safety about this, and he told me that several LEO's in his department had the same thing happen.

It's been 2 1/2 days for me so far. :fire:

In the days before I had my CCW "no more NICS checks for me" license, I occaisonally had to wait. My understanding is that a delay can be cause by an overload on the NICS team, whether or not there's anything in your background that could cause a problem. I'm sure that's why I had to wait the full 3 days in late Dec, 1999. Other delays were just an hour or two.

But most went right through. Its a mystery. But the delay was probably just a backup due to lots of gun-buying. Or maybe someone at NICS was sick that day ;-)

I always get delayed, I have the same last name as someone with a felony conviction. Maybe someone with a name close to yours just got locked up?

It is all part of the "War on Happiness" that is being waged on the general population.

Every gun (except one bought from a dealer at a gun show) I've bought since Oct 2002, I've been delayed at least beyond the conversation... Beyond the 'processing' time. Don't know if it's my last name or if they finally dug up the bodies from under our old house... Nothing else changed and I was never delayed even one minute before Oct 2002... No tickets, no arrests, no nothing.

If it's a comfort, any PRNJ detainees who want to exercise the same rights that they have in the United States all get fingerprinted. :fire:

I got finger printed to work at the Missouri Highway Partol and to this day have never had to wait more than a couple minutes untill the end of the phone call.

Now I'm nervous. I was fingerprinted as part of a background check at work recently in order to allow access to a secured server room that contains IRS data. I haven't bought a gun since then. I guess I'll find out ... :uhoh:

I got my guns today so it wasn't too big a deal, but just annoying. I'm just one of those people that if I want it I got to have it now. I feel less dirty now and less annoyed.

I tried to pick up an internet purchase at my dealer today.

They told him that the NCIS system was down / slow today.

They have to call him back when it clears.

I guess it's a bad day in computer land.

I have had a high-level government security clearance for 20 years. I get reinvestigated on a regular basis and anything suspicious could cause me to lose my job. These investigations are much more comprehensive than the gun purchase investigations. In my recent purchases (the last 6 years) I have had about 50% delayed for background checks.

The Brady Background Check system was set up on "names" instead of other positive ID because it would deny the most people.

My name is common and I get denied 50% of the time. I have to spend time to protest and I always get approved. But, if I get denied only 50% of the time over a 6 year period and with over 10 gun purchases, I have to ask how good and consistent are the background checks?

It is not crime control, it is just CONTROL.
