my question is... i live in long island new york and my county police rarely give out conceal carry permits, inless inless u have an extremly good reasoning for carrying a conceal carry. well iam turning 21 next year and iam also in a wheelchair. well i want a conceal carry permit and simply for the reason being that iam in the wheelchair and fear that if i get bugged i will not be able to protect myself if the mugger or muggers decide to whip my ass. if anyone of u fella's can help me figure out what i should say as a good reason to be able to carry id appreciate ur input. it has to be something pretty convinceing for the county police to allow me to carry concealed. well i thought being handycapped was good enough and my gun range buddy said they wouldnt give me a permit for that kind of reason, but i could get one if i worked their at the gun range but if i decided to stop working their, there goes the permit and gun no longer able to carry then. so some input would help alot.

    thanks alot guys

ps. sorry about the spelling its late im to tired to go and do all the grammer and spelling all the right ways i know iam a lazy ass.

I dont know the laws in NY my friend. I am disabled also, (heart-lung junk) but I have my CCW as it isnt as hard in MN. I would think you could have a doctor write some kind of note to verify your disability and desire(reason) let alone common sense to be able to carry. I know I would if I were in your shoes. Get some Afadavits signed (and noterized)by Dr., Friends, Family, Employer, and that usually helps in most cases.

    I moved from NY

    it can be done.
Liberals (like the Nazi's) do not want disabled people to defend their lives.
I got so angry reading your post because I know you have little , if any, chance of scoring a CCW.
move to a better state. NH, VT, PA, VA all are close to NY and you can score a permit---or move to FL and get both a permit and better weather.

I've noted that in a lot of areas that make it difficult to obtain a concealed carry permit, self-defense is often not considered a good enough reason to grant a permit. On the other hand, if you carry a lot of money or valuables for your work then a permit is often issued to protect those valuables, leading one to believe that your life really isn't considered to be worth much to your government; certainly not as valuable as the money you may be carrying for your employer.

if you could show you are at risk over and above just being in a wheelchair then perhaps it would convince the powers that be that you need a carry permit.

if that were the case, any person in a wheelchair, by virtue of being handicapped, would get a CCW. not that there is anything wrong with that, but the liberals in office would then assume that someone would challenge this under equal rights and a non-handicapped person would then get a CCW. then if just one non-handicapped person got a CCW then that could lead to more.

if you were employed as say, a diamond/jewelry courier, or carrying $10k+ in cash on a daily basis (business owner making cash deposits), engaged in the business of dealing firearms, or something where there is a risk associated with carrying something that someone else wants, then perhaps you can justify it. being in a wheelchair just makes it more justified.

but simply being in a wheelchair, im afraid, won't convince any of the NYers to issue you a CCW. sorry. in Texas, we are a "shall issue" state.

    good luck.

Sorry. You're out of luck. When I lived in NY, I worked in the jewelry business and I couldn't get a permit.

Sad to say, that's probably the "logic" involved.

You couldn't pay me to live in New York.

Tell 'em you can't remember how to call nine-hundred-and-eleven.
Seriously, ask your fire-arms instructor for help in getting the permit.
  12. I read just last year a guy in the same situation was denied a permit in Baltimore. I was extremely upset about it, and I hope you'll be able to get one on Long Island.
