I have gone rimfire crazy

So, I recently picked up a CMMG conversion kit to run on my latest 10.5 build. It's a hoot and the accuracy was acceptable. Well, I got tired of everything that you have to do to go back and forth between 5.56 and .22, so I got a bunch of parts together and put this together...https://photos.app.goo.gl/jwvg9mupmpR9PRQL7

I had a bunch of parts laying around that weren't doing anything so, I threw it together. The barrel is a 16" 1:9 twist and does a lot better with the conversion than the 10.5" 1:7 does. I shoot 40 grain solids. Popping a clay pigeon at 100 yards is too easy.

Well, my dad likes it (he's 82), but said that it's kind of heavy; so, I did this...https://photos.app.goo.gl/E6oBDbgHvaYgi3VK8...it's really amazing what taking a few inches off can do to the way a firearms feel.

It shoots really well. Still hits clays at 100 yards, but had to dial up a bit. I don't know how much, but I have given up some velocity. The crown came out pretty nice too. That stuff that looks like scratches is lint...https://photos.app.goo.gl/pC6hBXXzi9r44cT78

I realized today that since getting the conversion kit, we've put 4K rounds through it. That's four times more than I've put through the 5.56. The 350 Legend build is gonna have to wait. I've ordered two of the CMMG 9" barrel and collar kits and am going to put together two dedicated uppers. One to replace the barrel on the one in the pic above and another for a total build using another slick side upper I ordered from MAS Defense. I figured that I might as well spend my money where I spend the most time.

Nice!

I also went on a rimfire kick, the last five firearms I have bought were rimfires...a Wrangler .22 LR, a Smith & Wesson Model 48-2 .22 Mag, a Dan Wesson .22, a Ruger Mk IV 10.5" and a Ruger 10-22 Stainless International (The last two I literally just bought last week, they're awaiting the waiting period, etc. to pick up.)

Nothing is more fun than a nice afternoon shooting good .22 firearms and a brick (or two) of ammo.

Stay safe.

I've gone "rimfire crazy" a couple of times.

First time I was chasing the perfect .22 handgun - preferably a revolver. As you can imagine, perfect is hard to find. So I ended up with a few various specimens along the way (semi autos, too).

Second time, I think it was just before and during the great .22 ammo drought and my LGS just kept getting random old .22 rifles that he was selling for ~$150 or so. I didn't really need any of them, but you know how that goes. So I have a few of those as well.

I'll always love shooting .22, it is about as cheap and as quiet as it gets this side of an airgun. Some find it boring, but not me. There are worse things that could happen to someone than to go "rimfire crazy", in my opinion.

Oh, man. It must be in the air. In the last month, I got myself a Wrangler. Then I had to get my dad one. Then my son wanted one, but preferred the look of the Heritage (boy was that a mistake, but that's for another thread) and today I was in Academy and a Henry lever gun caught my grandson's eye. "Hey, pawpaw, is that one like the one you gave Joseph?" Yeah, we walked out with it.

You should have seen us last Saturday. Me, my son, my dad and my grandson. Not one, not two, but five bricks. The six guns and lever were cheap to feed. The AR-22 and the Mark II with a dozen magazines? Not so much.

Ooos, wrong thread

I've been looking for another rimfire lately too, must be going around...

I'd really like a small tuckable pistol or revolver. The only real use would be plinking, but isn't that the best reason for .22lr anyway? (Not that there aren't other reasons, that is just my main reason). There are a ton of small .22 compact/pocket options, so I see some buying and trading in my future to find "the one".

Pfft, I hope this stops soon. I had a problem this weekend with the conversion. I believe it was due to a broken firing pin spring.

Anyway, we've been shooting so much .22, man, it's getting out of hand. I converted the conversion to a dedicated .22 today. A CMMG 9" barrel with collar came in, so I threw those on. Now just waiting for the replacement springs that I ordered and the other 9" Barrel and BCG, upper receiver and other stuff to come in to complete the other build.
