I cannot remember ever being bored in my life, nor depressed. But nights are so lonely since the loss of my dearly beloved Nita this past June, I, too, find gun talk (via forums/Facebook) being a great comfort.

As to my favorites, it all comes down to the Single Action revolver. And I do love the .44 caliber, in Special or magnum versions. And close behind is the .45 Colt. Ruger, Colt, or Uberti; all have found favor with me:

What the heck, I'll join the fray.

I only have a few revolvers, but I really like them all:

  • Ruger LCR in 38 +P - I like carrying this. It is so light and the Hogue Monogrips make it comfortable in the hand. I don't even mind that the pinky goes under the grip. It's jumpy-but-not-painful to shoot, and I find I can shoot it better than my Sig P365 out to 7 yards. Really good DA trigger for a subcompact revolver.
  • Ruger SP-101 in 357, 3" barrel - This does a bit of everything, for me. I think this may become a cool & cold weather carry gun. I can shoot it all day at the range with loads of varying power levels. I like the extra weight in shooting and I don't mind it in an OWB holster and I like the extra inch of barrel compared to a snub. I did a home trigger job and it is pretty pleasant to shoot and not TOO punishing with the odd 357 ammo.
  • Ruger Redhawk in 44 Mag, 7.5" barrel - For me, this is a fun range gun, and as a handloader, it is quite versatile. The DA trigger is better than it needs to be, as DA isn't the order of the day when it comes to long-barreled revolvers. SA trigger is OK; just not in S&W territory. I like to stoke it with 44 Special-level loads, but with light bullets, in 44 Mag cases. It needs a scope to realize its full accuracy, but then it is too heavy to shoot offhand. Makes me wish I had the 5.5" barrel version, but then I remember I have the...
  • S&W 625, 45 ACP, 5.5" barrel - This one is super-fun too. 45 ACP is just about the right amount of power for me out of a big framed revolver. I realize that 45 Colt is The Correct Chambering, but 45 ACP is the modern choice. I just love the moon clip loading and unloading, and if I tire of it, I can just get some 45 Auto Rim brass. (hard to do that though, with all the free 45 ACP brass available...) I have five moon clips loaded with 30 rounds of 200 gr. plated semi-wadcutters over 5.2 gr. of Win 231. (That's just under the power level of a factory 230 gr. load) I'm going to take it to the range with the mrs. tomorrow.
  • S&W 19, 357, 4" barrel. This one is a honey. I really lucked out when I bought it. It was surplus from somewhere and I think it's a retired police gun, as it has holster wear on the front of the cylinder and barrel. It has obviously been gunsmithed, as the DA trigger pull is light and smooth and the SA pull is just ounces. It came with the walnut target stocks, but the checkering is so sharp it rubs my fingertips raw with anything but powderpuff loads. I put a Hogue Monogrip on it and now it is super-comfortable, but not quite so handsome. It did have one light primer strike last week, so I need to look into tightening up the hammer spring a bit. I'm teaching my wife to shoot on this gun now and she's requested this be our new home defense gun. (pushing the SP-101 back) The only bad thing about this gun is that it has really spoiled me standards for a DA trigger pull. I went and tried out a new Colt Python and King Cobra, and they are not nearly as nice as this Smith & Wesson. (but they are better-looking and better-finished)
 
My favorites are the ones I've hung on to over the years for that very reason - they are my favorites. Top of my list is the 686 and then the 586.

Thanks. It's a 1951 model K-22. A nice quality gun and a good shooter. I normally keep some larger grips on it for shooting, but it's wearing the originals in the photo. The 586 also wears different grips most of the time - Pachmayr grippers somehow feel best out of several ones I've tried, so I usually shoot with those.

Depression is a killer (no pun intended, literally). Constantly in the battle myself.

Revolvers are my favorites to shoot. I like Colts. Doesn't matter as long as it has a horse on it. The New Service is my favorite. I own two: a 1917 Army that has been to hell and back, and a mint condition 38 WCF from 1923.

And my oldest revolver, a literal antique, Colt New Navy in 32 WCF. The grips are hand worn thin with half a dozen old notches on one. Its worn out and needs timing work. But it matches my 1873 in caliber.

I was not raised on revolvers, and didn't own one until I was 25 or so. The first few I owned were total crap (cough cough Rossi/Taurus). Those experiences turned me off of revolvers for another ten years or so. Very unfortunate.

At a certain point I ran across an S&W K-frame (listed for a price I could not resist. I still have it.)
So, favorites? Drum roll...

1. My M25 in .45LC Which I got to shoot today :)
2. My very well-used 4" M66-no-dash (mentioned above).

A number of others have come and gone, and a couple, I wish I had hung onto. But you can't own them all...at least not at once, so selling one allows me to own another.
I'm pretty happy with what I have, and very happy with what I have been able to own for a period of time.
Honorable mention goes to two M57 .41 Mag, a 4" and a 6", and a 6" M-27.
And a very nice M-17, and a couple other M25s, one 6" in LC and a 3" in .45acp...

Enjoyed them all and moved on. Life is good.
 
My most favorite revolvers are those chambered in 45 Colt and leaning towards S&W Model 25-5. Here is my trio for 25-5's, the 6" version was bought new back in the day and the 4" and 8-3/8" models bought used recently.

I have a couple 45 Colt Blackhawks (4-5/8" and 7-3/8"barrels) and a 45 Colt Redhawk (4" barrel) as well. Throw in a Bond Arms 45 Colt/.410 derringer Snake Slayer as well.

I mostly have S&W revolvers, J-frames, K-frames, L-frames, and N-frames chambered in 22 RF to 44 Magnum. Also, I have a few Ruger GP100 revolvers in 32 Fed mag and 44 Special and few Colt DA revolvers (Python and Anaconda) chambered in 357 Mag and 44 Magnum.

I'll admit to being somewhat a "breed snob" by staying away from the less main stream manufacturers. If it goes bang when I pull the trigger, it is what works for me. I'm happy.

S&W 66 accompanied by @Spats McGee traveling knife, the kershaw Volt.
The 66 is my favorite. It is powerful, flashy, and an excellent shooter.
Other revolvers that I really like are the Ruger SSS, Blackhawk, and sp101.
Honorable mention to the Remington '58 c&b maybe the most fun gun that I own, seriously! Try it!

I seem to have devolved and regressed. For the last week or so my primary carry gun has been the Colt Detective Special that was also my companion during the mid-late '80 and early '90s. It's amazing how it seems easier to conceal and more comfortable and comforting than even some of my modern micro-sized pistols.

My K22 is also from 1951/52. Small world! I shoot it more often than any other firearm
