I Lost 20 Pounds Woohoo!!

    Exercise, Atkins frozen dinners (from the supermarket), and no more junk food. 20 pounds and counting. I feel great, my energy returned and my blood pressure is getting back to normal. My waist went down two sizes. I should have done it long ago.

    So...how is this gun related?

    For the first time, I can comfortably carry IWB. I have always carried smaller guns in my pocket or larger in fanny packs or shoulder style bags like a Maxpedition.

    IWB without a doubt is the best way to carry. Excellent concealment, stays put, comfortable in any position.

    C'mon all you guys (and girls) with a little extra...you can carry IWB too!

    Congrats! If youre looking fr a new holster, go get yourself a crossbreed or a galco king tuck. They're far and away the most comfortable iwb holster I've found.

    My wife is doing weight watchers, and it's working well for her.
    So well in fact, that I have been seriously contemplating doing it myself. I'm not terribly overweight, but I do have a reasonably impressive beer gut :D
    And yes, one of the first things that ocurred to me was the possibilities that it would open up if I ever get to carry a pistol (I live in NY :()
    Congratulations on your weight loss. It ain't easy, and I admire your mental fortitude and self discipline.

    I miss carrying IWB. I got married to a great little Italian gal that is an awesome cook.

    Since I got fat after that, I got a job as a cop so I could just open carry with a badge in front of the gun. Was WAY easier than trying to stop eating the delicious dinners :)

    Congratulations. That is no small feat. I need to do the same and am taking action toward it, but have had minimal results thus far. I have to be in it for the long haul and add more exercise and cardio every week. It has to be a lifestyle change. I think we all need to get in peak condition because I don't have a good feeling for where our nation is heading. If I could just give up the chocolate chip cookies...:eek:

    Even at my lightest, I couldn't stand IWB. Good on ya for losing weight, but IWB was never for me. OWB is so much more comfortable for me.

    I’m in shape… round is a shape isn’t it? :( And my weight is perfect, except that I’m 6 inches too short for it! :eek:

    My wife says that the only good thing about me being overweight is that you can’t drive a spike with a tack hammer… whatever that means. ;)

    Seriously, I’m on a diet because I want to get back to using IWB holsters without buying larger pants. In the meantime I’ve been using a crotch holster that I got from CTD for about $20 and I’m very satisfied with it.

    I went from 235 to 185, in a year and change, no one really noticed until I broke 200. But I was lazy and disabled, I had to push thru the pain to get in shape. The eliptical walker burns about double what the treadmill does, Having owned a gym I knew what to do, just seemed like a daunting task. I started with 15 minutes on the eliptical and worked up to 40. Now I could go as log as I want but 1/2 hour 5 times or even 4, is enough to maintain.
    Also hit the weights, 4 sets of bench and flies for chest, curls forBiceps, triceops pulldowns and kickbacks, for triceps, dumbell and machine curls and cable puldowns, No shoulder other than once is a while and the legs get hit by the eliptical.
    Once you loose the weight you should re proportion the body so you make the most out of what you have.
    The first 6 months really is all cardio,get that weight off, the weights are really a waste of time untill you loose the fat, but a little weight training is ok, as muscle is needed to burn fat. concentrate on the large muscles like chest back shoulders, "if you can", some guys have a specific injury, like "back" that makes it hard to work around. The idea is to make sure you are supported "like sitting" when you work those areas.
    Machines are better as you get older, as free weights can move off center and strain a bad back or shoulder.
    Same with legs, after 40 you don't want to injure a knee, so just extensions and leg curls, are enough if you are doing cardio.
    Cables are great also. I am turning 65 and look better than I did "body wise" 15 years ago. I had big muscles, but a lot of body fat, my blood preassure is normal and also my cohlesterol, with no pills. Cut out the booze to weekends only and wine instead of vodka, and eat healthy, we all know what we should eat we just are to lazy or in a hurry to do it.
    My wife is into it also so it's easier. That's my take on it, I said I would get back into the shape I was when I moved to FL, that was almost 20 years ago.
    You have to stick to it, there are months where not much happens, I strive for 2000 calories a week on the cardio that's 5 days at 400 per day. It takes 1/2 hour. If I did nothing else that would have taken off the weight in about a year and a few months.

    I went from 242 to 196....never quite got the 50lbs off that I wanted. I looked better, felt better, and was better. I was using an IWB holster then also.

    <THEN> I got off the nicotine (Copenhagen), and gained all of it back.
    <NOW> I am back on the diet and the treadmill. Walk .25mi/run .25mi for 3.5mi (475-500 cal/day) 6 days per week for 7 weeks now. Finally have lost 7lbs, but have my determination back. Looking forward to getting back into my 'skinny clothes' and IWB holster, not to mention picking stuff up off the floor, and tying my bootlaces, etc. lol

    True, but it beats having starvation as the national crisis.

    SIG228, GOOD FOR YOU!!!!!! I've always had to fight the battle of the bulge. It gets even harder as we get older. The weight goes on easier and comes off harder. Yes IWB is often the easiest way to carry.

    I'm at least 17 lbs less than the Army says I can weigh before taping me (I say "at least", because that's if they measure me at 65 instead of 66 inches).

    However, I'm going to be leading a team of whippersnappers in a go-fast specialty, so I need to get in shape to be able to do at least 70% of the 18-21 y/o run score. That means a two-mile run in 15:12 or less. Passing push-ups and sit-ups is easy enough, but for me, the run is the thing that takes continual work to maintain or improve.

    Fortunately, overall fitness and cardiovascular health are easier. :) My big weight loss when I was 19-20, involved walking an hour, six times a week. I paid attention to my diet and a little attention to portion size, but the biggest factor was activity level.

    I'm 5'11" and 170 lbs, but I can still easily put on 10 pounds if i'm not careful about what i eat. my point is that no one is immune from extra pounds. good on the OP and a big congratulations for your hard work. losing a few pounds certainly makes CCW a lot easier.

    Congrats sig228! I porked up after an injury a few years back and I hate the extra weight. The worst for me is smoking though. I'm starting to feel it's affects. I am quitting tonight so I can start the week off a non smoker monday morning. Then it's back to the gym. A previous poster mentioned elliptical machine. Those things make my legs burn after 10 minutes. When I was in better shape I could go an hour.

    Anyway, good for you man. Thanks for the inspiration.
