I love Barrett

That's very cool. If I had the opportunity to meet him, I'd have to buy him a drink. . . because I don't think I'll ever have the disposable income to buy one of his guns :p

edit: I think it'd be awesome to have one of his guns, but my closest range is about an hour away, only 200 yards, and I don't even know if they allow 50bmg. Even if I did have the money to spend on a gun or guns, I just couldn't justify such a large purchase for a gun that I could't really use. It'd be like buying a Ferrari and never driving it on a track.

I will buy one of his rifles. Though I've wanted to for a long time anyhow. Now I just really really want to.

man, it never fails. every time i decide to start saving money, something like this happens that compels me to go buy a gun.

good show, Mr. Barrett

R. Barrett is the man, bought 2 of his .50s thus far.......a 99 and an 82A1.

Not only that, he told one agency (LAPD?) that not only would he not service their .50 they sent him for work, he would not ship it back - if they want it, they can send someone to TN to get it. :neener:

I'd like to see Barret wildcat the .50 BMG down to fire a long, aerodynamic .45 caliber bullet. It'd be fast and flat. It would also be expensive as this wouldn't be using off the shelf parts or surplus ammo.

But more importantly, liberals would be having strokes left and right at this very simple bypass of the .50 cal ban. What are they going to do, ban all .45 weapons? That would obviously be a mass gun grabbing. If that doesn't unite gun owners against this oppression, I don't know what will.

What a great man!! I have a huge amount of respect for Mr Barrett. He is really sticking to his guns on this one.(no pun intended)

I thought the .50 ban was kind of pointless. As I recall, the socialists and hoplophobes banned a specific cartridge by name, to wit, ".50 BMG", not .50's in general.

Change the name on the head stamp, and a 1/4-degree change in the shoulder angle (just so it's backwards compatible) and a new name. Something exciting, and eyecatching.

Something like, "New for 2005, the 12.7mm Tyrannicide. Available from quality firearms dealers everywhere."

If nothing else, we get to see:
1) elected nabobs asking their staff what the heck tyrannicide means
2) aforementioned nabobs wondering how they are going to look banning this one [assuming anyone is paying attention]
3) the next year, Winchester come up with a supershortmagnum version, and Remington will chamber it in their new Zed-frame superheavy rifle action [Made from Ultra Tough Unobtainium!], based on their time-proven Model 700.

You are right so far as the CA ban goes. AB50 specifiically names the .50 BMG cartridge and rifles chambered for it.

On the other hand, the .50 ban being debated in NJ right now bans any weapon of .50 caliber, not specifically the .50 BMG. It makes exceptions for shotguns and muzzleoaders up to .60 caliber. The ban also equally applies to handguns.

I don't know about other states efforts to ban.

One of the other scary thing they did in CA ban not often covered was how it also suspended the First Amendment:

CA Penal Code section 12020.5

It shall be unlawful for any person [individual, partnership, corporation, limited liability company, association, or any other group or entity, regardless of how it was created], to advertise the sale of any weapon or device whose possession is prohibited by Section...12280 in any newspaper, magazine, circular, form letter, or open publication that is published, distributed, or circulated in this state, or on any billboard, card, label, or other advertising medium, or by means of advertising device.

So any national or international magazine that is distributed in CA can no longer advertise .50 BMG goods...or any weapon designated an "assault weapon" by the CA penal code.

Something like, "New for 2005, the 12.7mm Tyrannicide. Available from quality firearms dealers everywhere."

It would be much more sensible to give it at totally silly and harmless name, so it would sound stupid trying to hold a press conference to ban it. For instance, 12.7mm Action Wienerdog or 1.2cm Parakeet Express.
