I did a informal survey in my class today. 15 of 18 sixth graders said they had firearms in their homes. 11 of 18 said they had been hunting or shooting with a family member. Those kind of percentages make me feel optimistic about our future. I am considering adding hunter education to my science curriculum. My principal ok'd it. :)

Are you in rural OK or one of the Metro's?

I ask because I live in the OKC metro and though I've actually only run into 1 real anti in the 22 years I've been here by far most are neutral on the gun issue (meaning they aren't against guns, may own them or not, if they do own them it's a hunting rifle or handgun in a bedside table that never gets shot but don't care if anyone else owns them or not). A minority - say 20% or less is actually what I'd describe as pro-gun (understand RKBA, it's place in US history, own guns and shoot them regularly).

I don't find this mix surprising but do find your stats surprising if you teach in an OK metro area - especially if you're in Norman.

My condolences.....................

Try south of the Red River sometime........;) chris3

Try south of the Red River sometime........

Why would any god fearin Okie want to move south of the red river? Texas s*cks! :neener: jk

I grew up in Drumright,OK and it is very pro gun!

I am in a suburban community about 15-20 min east of OKC. Still a lot of rural and agricultural ties, but the majority of our families work in the city. Tinker is a major employer of our community. We are a 5a school and average about 150-160 per grade.

Werewolf,

I agree that many Oklahomans own guns, but are not actively pro-gun or pro-2a. My Dad, for example, has 7 or 8 guns, but rarely practices and only hunts 2 or 3 times a year. He loves fishing and only hunts when the fish aren't biting. He loves taking kids and newbies fishing.

I think Harrah. :)

I love Oklahoma, especially the southeast part of the state. But, stickin' with Texas for now.

HAH--I knew it, but dallied on then reply.

I lived in McLoud when I was in grade school--still have family there.+

Ah, Harrah. Used to have a girlfriend that lived there. Cool results on your poll, though. It's refreshing to see kids that are growing up with guns around.
