Do these petitions actually get seen or mean anything? I saw where most every state had a petition to secede from the union and almost every one (maybe not cali) had enough votes. What actually happens to these?

Other than that, I got a kick out of this one. Great idea.

whitehouse.gov is a sop to the public and serves as a lightning rod to draw off energy from the public who think they've accomplished something by filing one of hundreds of repetitive pointless petitions (or signing one).

All it does is bring an issue to the attention of the Office of the President. You don't think POTUS doesn't already know about the issue around banning guns?

If you care at all, use congress.org or Ruger's or NRA's letter writing websites to send individual letters to the people you elected to Congress (or that beat your guy). YOU are a constituent and you have a voice they might pay attention to. Tell them you'll spend your time and money to see them unseated in the next election if they ban magazines or firearms and tell them that you'll spend even more on their reelection if they oppose such bans.

Use our example letters in Activism and keep sending letters on every piece of legislation that is proposed and let them know that you have a Congressperson in office that sells you down the river.

Considering they actually wasted the time to respond to the pettition to build a death star yes they are seen. But obviously it is more improtant to address the deth star pettition than one dealing with a serious issue.
