I may be oddly showing my age by using a double title. Reminds me of Rocky and Bullwinkle. But I digress. I have been having envy over all the kframe posts. I don’t see them much. I am still on a tighter budget than I’d like as well. Been watching an old model 83 Taurus with a badly beat nickel finish at my local pawnshop for six months. They wanted 300 for it. I could never see that happening. They just marked it down to 199 a few weeks ago. Still no one was interested. I had them pull it out, fully intent on low balling them. I noticed the rear sight was cocked from knocking into something. I asked if they would take 125 just to get her a home. He pulled the numbers and said he could do 126 since they paid 125. I don’t have it out yet as I’m paying on it. When I do I will add pictures to the post. What can be done on a scratched up tarnished nickel finished gun? All I want it for is punching paper with minimal power reloads and carrying it as a woods gun. Cheap solutions are best as I don’t know how well it will hold up but I paid about what you would for a Rough Rider for a center fire. Your wisdom is appreciated.

Hmmmm. Well, in all honesty it is a $126.00 purchase you made for utility, not an engraved BBQ gun with a hand-carved leather belt/holster you bought for show.

I would fix or replace the rear sight so it shoots straight, find a mid-range coated SWC load that it likes (158 gr over 4.5 gr Unique?) and leave it as-is for fun and woods carry.

Send some pics of the gun and let us know how it shoots when you get a chance . :)

Stay safe.

That’s the plan.I’m going to do some flitz and see if I can’t take a tiny ugly off it. Will post pics as soon as I can.

Leave it as it is. You want it for shooting,NOT for show..

If it shoots straight to your satisfaction, use it as a carry gun. Remember that if you use it, chances are you won't get it back from the LEOs. I got a beat up Model 10 for the same reason. And for your information, 158 grain SWC is one heck of a show stopper for self defense. I was using a 3"x10" heavy wood backdrop for some quick practice and my 158 grn cast just splintered the board at 15 yards. All shots were thru and thru. One of these years, I'll have to put something together and find out was really stops them.

It’s $126 gun man. The main questions should be:

1) Is the (DA) trigger good?
2) Is the lock-up good?
3) Is the bore good?

If so, buy it. This will be your beater gun. Heck, for that price, I’m tempted to drive down there and buy it out from under you.

The other thing you could do is STOP BUYING GUNS and get going with handloading.

Zero lies told. I am. I’m hunting primers as they are the most elusive. I have a small collection of brass and some store bought 38. I wanted the 38 so I had a longer barreled one to shoot with. I finally found a powder that suits my needs. I’m going to order some MBC cast bullets. Primers is the hard part. They are just not back on shelves.

Yep, you’re sure not going to find a “deal” on them. I had to order mine at great expense from gunbroker, but a brick goes a long way.

As for the bullets, I’ve never heard of mbc, but I’d go with coated, and make your clean up a lot easier.

I wasn’t holding out for a deal. I was hoping to find them local without having to pay for the hazmat fee. I may have to look at gunbroker.I don’t have an account there. Midway is always out. I am going to shop around by calling all the mom and pops and some of the farther out big box stores. It’s finals week for me so I’m held down real tight for the weekend. I have one week after that and I’m done. I will convert my homework desk into a loading bench soon!

MBC is Missouri Bullet Company. They have a coupon code for THR members.

If it's truly a nickel finish, don't use any
ammonia anything on it. It'll make it
worse.
JMHO- I agree with the others that
posted to not go above and beyond
on any refinishing attempt.
That's a user at a good price to
be used and enjoyed
