I live in Los Angeles and want to get a CCW. I am willing to relocate anywhere in California in order to get a CCW. Where in California am I all but certain to get the permit and what steps are involved? The reason I ask is I once testified against a criminal who has since been released from prison, and there isn't much the police can do to protect me.

From what I have heard one of the easiest places to get a CCW in the PRK is in Kern Co.

It's not advisable to be in a city but be in the county where city regulations don't matter.

A frien of mine just went to the sheriff's office and filled out the paperwork, jumped through the hoops and got his. I think his reason was for self protection.

    CA CCW -

My county, Amador, is pretty easy for a property owner but IIRC "Self Defense" is not an accepted reason.

There's good info and some people to contact at:

Please do not depend on oral advice from an LEO - - they are generally among the least informed of up-to-date info.

    Good Luck

San Bernardino county is pretty simple, Sheriff's name is Gary Penrod he is pro 2A

    Fill out paperwork
    be interviewed
    go to range and shoot

Orange County is also pretty simple, so I've been told.I don't live in OC.

Like already posted Kern County Sheriff is also VERY pro 2A

    Mendocino County Sherrif's direct quote:

"If I can empower people to protect themselves, then I've partially achieved the government's responsibility to protect its people," Craver said.

    and:

The number of Mendocino County residents authorized to tote concealed guns has jumped nearly five-fold since 1998, when 217 permits were authorized. Craver was elected sheriff after making a campaign vow that law-abiding citizens would be allowed to carry guns.

    "It's their right," Craver said.

Note the use of the word 'right' here? Not privlige, not entitlement, none of that junk.

He's practically shall-issue. Not to mention that he ran on the platform of basically shall-issue CCW.
