I have a P30. I love it, but words cannot adequately describe my hatred for three-dot sights. :barf: I even prefer the standard Glock sights to three-dots.

I was thinking about XS Standard Dots, but I've read some conflicting reviews about them. Who here has shot 'em before? What are your impressions? I'm hoping to move the P30 to the bedside safe, but this sight issue needs to be solved first.

I've shot the XS Big Dot and Standard Dot sight set and they both share the same two weaknesses.
1. The Rear sight doesn't give you enough lateral or vertical feedback. What works on an Express rifle completely changes when you remove a point of index when shooting a handgun
2. The top of the Front sight is rounded which gives you inconsistent vertical alignment even when used with a notch type rear sight

Black sharpie? Really cheap.

That is an idea.

Rats. Any suggestions?

I had some Heinie Straight Eights on a .45, but there was always a gap between the front dot and the rear dot (i.e. it wasn't a "true" eight where the bottom of the front dot touched the top of the back dot).

Back in olden times, from 1911A1 on, expert pistol marksmen did very well with plain black patridge sights.

Target shooters using the 1911A1 used the "punkin' on a post sight picture" very effectively in competitive target shooting.

Three white dots are for combat-action shooting where you do not have an opportunity to get a clear target picture and speed is of the essence.

I second gulogulo's suggestion if you want plain black patridge sights.

A really nice sight set are the ones from 10-8 Performance http://www.10-8performance.com/hk-rear-sight/

They aren't designed to "touch"

A true eight has a "waist" separating the upper and lower loops (dots)

Why not a brass bead-type sight setup?

That's not a bad idea, but I've yet to see one for the P30.

I don't care for black on black. Even having the front post painted white or orange would be better for me. Just a personal preference.

I like the 10-8s.

By the way, I wish you had been there before I wasted about 100 rounds of .45 missing the paper altogether before determining how those sights were supposed to align. I looked like a moron.

I have a P30 9mm myself and I believe that it is one of the very best service pistols in my collection. IMHO, the stock sights are one of the best features of the gun, but (again, IMHO) the modular grip setup is THE best feature of the gun. For me, with the large backstrap & grip sideshells installed, this gun points to a target just about perfectly and sight alignment and picture is spot on. So FWIW I wouldn’t mess with the sights until I had a chance to try out a few variations with the modular grip setup on that pistol. I wouldn’t sharpie the rear sight but I would cover the rear sight dots with a few small bits of dull electrical tape, while you’re experimenting with the grip.

I know you said you don’t like 3 dot sights, but have you looked at the tru-glo tfo sights? Bright at night and bright during the day. Really grabs your attention and draws your eyes to the sights. Maybe it will help, sorry if it doesn’t.

Like doubleh said, try painting your dots. I removed the paint completely from my rear sights and painted the front dot a bright green/yellow color. One base coat of white,2 coats of green and 2 coats of clear. It's a cheap way improce your sights. If you don't like it than, than go buy new sights.

The pictures doesn't do it justice. In day light they absolutely glow, and in low light it's comparable to a fiber optic because it reflects the light.
