well the deer didnt die because there were just a few drops here and there and just a little bit where it laid down.When there is no blood there is no need to continue tracking
 
Yeah he probably just nicked it some. Might as well continue hunting the general area though, he may turn up again.

good shooting on your second buck marlin.

because there is no blood on the ground it does not mean the deer has not bled out. if i hit a deer in a good chest shot with a bullet that doesn't expand too massively (speer hotcor, for example), or travelling at a steadier velocity then the entry and exit wounds will be pretty small with a large temporary wound channel created. so the deer bleeds out in its own chest. thats why when i stick my knife in its chest underneath the breastbone so much blood comes out.

despite what some might have you believe hunting real live animals is not a perfect science. sometimes you get runners and sometimes you don't recover shot animals. we live and learn all you can do is your best. there will be internet guys who give you a slating.... but afterall it's only an internet forum!
