I have a S&W M&P chambered in 9mm. I was recently at a bowling pin shoot and had a great time using it and I got to thinking (which is always trouble) I have a few extra bucks I can afford to burn. . . I think it's time I accessorize the manly way. So I immediately started thinking I want new sights and maybe even a new rcoil spring. Sights-wise I like XS's big dot and I also like Speed Sights (I'd need to have those custom made) and recoil spring-wise I've heard good things about EFK and DPM model recoil springs. Anyone have any suggestions, reccomendations or ideas? I'm open to ANYTHING and I would like to make this great little gun a little more fun. Thanks guys.

Sights are a purely personal decision. Try them if you like. If they don't work for you, all you're out is money.

As for a new spring.....Why? Does your M&P not work reliably?
S&W spent a lot of money designing and "balancing" the gun to work properly with the factory spring.

If I just had money to burn, I would consider a trigger job, but that's not to say that the trigger on the stock M&P won't get it done.

I have a great idea on how to accessorize your M&P9! You should get a second one (M&P9 Pro Series) to compliment the first. If you purchase the M&P9 Pro Series, you will have a competition level shooter with fiber-optic sights and a Performance Center trigger job.

At lease that was the solution I choose for my M&P accessory dilemma.

My M&P accessories:
M&P40
M&P357
M&P9c
M&P9 Pro Series

I ask Why on the Recoil Spring Also?
My .40 is Way smoother than my Beretta 96 , Which surprised the Crap out of me! If it ain't Broke Don't Fix it!

However, I did do my own trigger job. Someone will post a Link to it. It lightend the pull and shortend the over travel, I was very Impressed with it and did it to my .45 also!

Why not

Just laser grips? I shot one (a 9mm) and own a .40, I like it just the way it is. The only thing I would change is to buy another one.

The two most important accy you need:
1 more mags
2 more ammo

Add a CTC laser grip. It is the perfect accessory on mine. I shot one handed using the laser in practice the other day and put all the shots in a nice group.

You guys ask about the recoil spring but for the most part these are just ideas I like to kick around. That Dan Burwell custom trigger job does look pretty enticing though. I'm also liking the way those XS Big Dot front sights look too. I bet it'd look even better with a ghost ring on the rear. I also think the chrome barrel, slide release and take down lever looks sharp as well. I like all these ideas and suggestions, keep them coming. Oh and one other thing, is it possible to convert the regular 4.25 inch barrel into a full 5 incher with a new slide, barrel and spring?

I'm with jdh. I've got an M&P9 too, and it doesn't need anything new bought for it but mags and ammo, and a holster. It's got great Novak 3-dot steel sights from the factory and I don't NEED night sights for this gun so the stock sights are stayin'. As for the recoil spring ... umm what recoil? But if its a problem for ya, IIRC gunblast.com had a review on the M&P in which he recommended an aftermarket spring unit. That website has reviewed the M&P models a lot ... 9mm, 40, 45, compact ... cuz the site owner loves 'em. Might have to sift through several reviews before you find the aftermarket recoil spring discussion.

I'm supposed to have 2 free mags coming from Smith from the deal offered last fall. I sent my 'coupon' for them in during the first week of January .. nothing yet, but that seems to be normal. I just need more ammo, and a holster. I'll probably get a comp-tac paddle with the belt tabs.

Unless you are experiencing malfunctions, you don't need a new recoil spring. If you are experiencing malfunctions, you need to be sending it back to S&W to let them fix it for you.

If you're looking for accessories, here's some stuff to consider:

Ammo
Holsters
Magazines
Trigger job(www.burwellgunsmithing.com)
CT lasergrips
Weaponlight
Holsters (yes, this is on the list twice. If you get a weaponlight, you'll need a new holster)
